Come down off your throne and leave your body alone - somebody must change You are the reason Ive been waiting so long - somebody holds the key Well, Im near the end and I just aint got the time And Im wasted and I cant find my way home

That's info I got from AMG, as is the tidbit that their hit was actually a put-on, a Dylan parody, based on that they thought that "Subterranean Homesick blues" was itself a sly joke.

Oh, hello Mr. Soul, I dropped by to pick up a reason For the thought that I caught that my head is the event of the season Why in crowds just a trace of my face could seem so pleasin' I'll cop out to the change, but a stranger is putting the tease on. I was down on a frown when the messenger brought me a letter I was raised by the praise of a fan who said I upset her Any girl in the world could have easily known me better She said, You're strange, but don't change, and I let her. In a while will the smile on my face turn to plaster? Stick around while the clown who is sick does the trick of disaster For the race of my head and my face is moving much faster Is it strange I should change? I don't know, why don't you ask her?

Good sense, innocence, cripplin' mankind Dead kings, many things I can't define Occasions, persuasions clutter your mind Incense and peppermints, the color of time. Who cares what games we choose? Little to win, but nothing to lose. Incense and peppermints, meaningless nouns Turn on, turn in, turn your eyes around. Look at yourself, look at yourself, yeah, yeah Look at yourself, look at yourself, yeah, yeah, yeah! To divide the cockeyed world in two Throw your pride to one side, it's the least you can do. Beatniks and politics, nothing is new A yardstick for lunatics, one point of view Who care what games we choose? Little to win, but nothin' to lose. Good sense, innocence, cripplin' mankind Dead kings, many things I can't define. Occasion, persuassions clutter your mind Incense and peppermints, the color of time. Who cares what games we choose? Little to win, but nothin' to lose. Incense and peppermints Incense and peppermints Sha la la Sha la la Sha la la Sha la la Sha la la Sha la la

I very much enjoyed them back in the day, and praised them when one of their cuts appeared on a BFT here a while back. The "fun" thing is real, and more than a little worthy of praise in my estimation. But I never bought any of their records. So there you go.

What I have heard of her (first album) will certainly not lower the level of mainstream musical quality, should it get there. Damned if I can find fault with that. What I do or do not find beyond that is a personal matter far outside the realm of Cultural Guardian.

I might be off on this, but the distinctive timbral "fingerprint" of the original recording's horn section sound seems highly evident here, to the point that I suspect that tracks are being used. This impression is furthered by the timbral difference in the horns at the very end, that "collective blowing" thing over the last chord. That horn section suddenly sounds nothing like the one that's been playing in terms of presence, miking, and, yes, timbre. Maybe it's all the sample-heavy music I've been listening to lately, but things like the horn section "sound" from an old record, not so much the sound of the section itself, but the sound of the record of that section, have become highly distinctive to me, and I do think that these guys are using "tapes" ("tapes" since there's probably no oxide coated mylar anywhere in sight...).

Horn Band Mania! A brief moment in the evolution of American Popular Music, lasting roughly from when BS&T hit big thru about the time Elton John hit big. Plenty of WTF sounds to be had, as well as some really good ones as well. But always, ALWAYS, mutton chops & at least one pair of white pants.

The bit: The hit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guM-I-8CQ74...feature=related (just had a flashback of hearing this for the first time on the AM Top 40 radio and totally freaking out... The gig: featuring the guy who wrote both "Vehicle" and "Eye Of The Tiger".

Oh, we're gonn go there, eh? Ok, then, I suppose it would be senseless at this point to lament that it's the 50 million dollars I ain't got...

I want me some The Rat Pack TV music. I need to hear what Miles was telling Tony to go for.

My folks took me into Shreveport my senior year in high school to buy me a "good suit" for senior functions and college (senior functions, yeah, it was useful, but college in 1974 was a totally Suit-Free Zone...). Anyways, they paid more than they probably wanted to for a YSL suit because of the obvious quality and unmistakable style. Quite possibly the only time in my life that I'd seen the folks do something like that, they were always "frugal" out of equal parts necessity, life experience, and natural tendencies. Anyways, I still remember the salesman at the men's shop pulling out the jacket sleeve with that underneath stroke that all the pros use and saying with extreme confidence, "There's not a young man out there today buying clothes who doesn't know the name Yves Saint Laurent!" Didn't have the heart to tell him that I didn't, and that I really didn't care, but you knwo what? It was a damn fine suit, I still have it, and it stil hangs nicely on the hanger. It might even hang well on me if I was the size now that I was then, but hey, if I had 50 million dollars and a 15 inch dick, I could fuck Jennifer Lopez, right?

"Get It On" reached #1 on the charts, IIRC. HUGE hit, although the vilely revisionist toadies of "oldies radios" would rather you not know that...

http://www.dartanyan.com/BillChase/august9.html The first (hit) album's more of a Maynard-on-steroids meets Wayne Cochran. Sort of. Actually fun for me in small doses, and truthfully, the last album was a real breaking away, only 1 or 2 pop songs, the rest extended instrumental compositions, albeit of the, to my tastes, ponderous type.

Oh, you know, I'm as promiscuous a musical whore as anybody, and as catholic in my tastes as a nun's &^$%#, but this, I dunno... To take it all at once might be an act of musical pornography better left to those who come by it naturally, if you know what I mean. But I could be wrong!

half the folks here have jazz radio shows
JSngry replied to alocispepraluger102's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Yeah, there was a local guy here who did that, used that 2nd Duke Pearson big band album, various cuts. Not soft music always, but he did the fade up & down to make it soft when he spoke, louder when he didn't. -
