It's like I told my daughter the other day when she was feeling guilty about eating a hamburger - don't be afraid to bite the cow that feeds you.

Well, it was made for the Japanese market, so unless you speak Japanese, not having the sound is not going to be a deal-breaker. Then again, I don't speak Japanese, but really enjoyed the timbre and cadence of her voice listening to her speak it. And that laugh of hers is about as uplifting as things get. So yeah, play it with sound!

I bought her most recent CD from Dusty Groove a while back. Good enough stuff. Believe it or not, there's a few songs on that album that sound to me like she's been checking out Monday Michiru, especially one called "Maybe It's Not So". Production is pretty bareboned at times, and she writes the type of songs that could benefit from some more elaborate/focused settings at times, so that detracts a little from my overall enjoyment of the record (but not from the songs). The album has a "demo" quality to it at times, and for "pop" type material (even "jazzy pop", which is what most of this stuff is), I gotta use my imagination to hear what it would sound like more fully fleshed out ("production" for pop being what arrangements are to big bands, imo). But I do, and it sounds good! All in all, I'd recommend her album as a "non-essential but pleasant" purchase to those interested in "jazzy Neo-Soul" type material. And I really hope that her career advances to the point where she can get the budget to do her material with the benefit of the production that it deserves. She's a talent all right!

Maybe there's money to made in providing an escape from music. You could take requests for diferent kinds of quiet, with or without various background sounds. It would take years of practice to master getting the different ambient sounds down to a perfect timbral and proportionate balance that would have an aesthetic appeal. A real virtuoso would get the sounds moving in some sort of rhytmic motion too, one that makes itself felt w/o calling undue attention to itself. Pretty soon, that might be the new music! Oh, wait, that's another thing that already happened in the 20th century. Never mind.

And to think that just a year or so ago you were ready to quit for good because nobody cared anymore! See, times really are changing!!!!! Here's hoping that each of those young folks brings a friend who in turn brings a friend and so on. Pretty soon the joint will be SRO every night and the gig will run for years. That's usually how these things work, especially with the youngsters!

Yes, and yes. The chart on "Out Of This World" is really cool. Supposedly one of his from the 40s, but you'd not know it by the way it sounds.

Go back & get that Prez. Sound quality ain't so hot, but the playing is sublime and so's the crowd noise. That wilson was also my first. Very good stuff. Check out Harold Land on the last cut of side one and Bobby Hutcherson on many of the cuts.

Nope, it wasn't that one. It was a straight-ahead side from the late 70s/mid 80s. This is not the first mystery of this type I've encountered. I'm still searching in vain for the smoking James Moody performance of "That's All" that I heard on the radio in the late 70s. That's not listed in any discographies either, but I know I heard it!
