I've been enjoying the heck out of the two Don Ewell releases (Free and Easy and Music to Listen to Don Ewell By).
-
Yes! Same in Hudson Valley, NY
Barnes and Noble in Poughkeepsie, Kingston and Albany NY - NOTHING
Borders in Poughkeepsie - NOTHING; Albany and Danbury had one copy of each new RVG each, I think
Tower in Nanuet, NY - NOTHING (which sucks, because BN titles are 20% off right now)
FYE in Poughkeepsie and Kingston - NOTHING
Best Buy in Kingston and Poughkeepsie (who used to carry new RVGs up until about a year ago) - NOTHING
I live in the Catskills, and never even try such chain stores. But Rhino Records in New Paltz (maybe there's a branch in Poughkeepsie, but I've never been), seems to be run by somewhat of a jazz fan, and occasionally stocks newish RVGs. Once in a while, interesting used discs show up, though their pricing can be off (eg, they tend to charge the "full used price" for old OJCs, even if newer K2s and/or RVGs have been released). But the flip side is the occasional OOP find (eg I got Ike Quebec's "Easy Living" there). They also have a lot of good titles on vinyl, but I can't speak for the prices, not being an LP collector. Not sure if it'd be worth the drive for you, but worth a stop if you happen to be in NP.

Hank Jones & Frank Wess - Hank and Frank - Lineage
A really delightful CD by two living jazz masters with a top level rhythm section.
Have you heard the new Barry Harris disc in this series? I haven't, but am considering it as well as "Hank and Frank."

I like The Magnificent Thad Jones (BN 1527) ... It's something about evoking the period.
I voted for The Shack here, but The Magnificent Thad Jones is also my favorite.

The discs listed by Aggie87 have surfaced at yourmusic.com, though I can't vouch for every title. "Boston Blow-Up" is now next in my queue.
Since I joined yourmusic.com, my BMG account has become inactive. Only the BMG $1.99 clearance CDs are cheap enough.

why don't we all stop responding to questions/comments by Aric. That should keep him away after a while.
...who's Aric?
I dunno, either. But if it's who I think, the "ignore list" has been working for me.

Second the McPherson and Bishop, Jr.
Also have been digging:
Hope Full w. Elmo, Bertha Hope
New Piano Expressions, John Dennis.
My second order should arrive tomorrow!

"Easy Living" seems to be the IQ currently in most need of re-release. Very nice album, despite being rather a strange mix of two sessions.

I didn't have my reading glasses on when I typed my last post.......I just saw my typo......i meant to say T.D.'s previous post....not precious post
No offense...I didn't even notice the typo, and assumed "previous".

I placed this particular order on 7/25. I called Concord because on a precious post by T.D. his order, which was placed on 7/28 and had a higher order #, shipped before mine.
I don't think that's so unusual. My first order (forget the date; details are many, many pages back on this thread) didn't ship until a whole bunch of later orders were shipped (and many of those even arrived at their destination before I got my shipping confirm!). I do get the impression that Concord's order-filling process has become more orderly, though.

My order #6219, placed very late 7/28, just shipped. I had quite a few non-fills:
Ordered: 1 Shipped: 0 RITB-9464-2 CANCELED: Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers - Ugetsu $2.98
Ordered: 1 Shipped: 0 NJCD-8260-2 CANCELED: Eric Dolphy - Eric Dolphy at the Five Spot, Vol. 1 $2.98
Ordered: 1 Shipped: 0 PRCD-8236-2 CANCELED: Eric Dolphy - Outward Bound $2.98

I think Taylor Eigsti's a prodigy of sorts, and has released at least a couple of prior albums. I saw/heard him live about a year ago. Definitely "real jazz", had a lot of technique, but didn't swing very much or consistently IMO.

Sorry to hear that. My first package of about 30 CD's and the Evans box arrived yesterday. My second package of about 10 arrived today. Orders placed on 7/13 and 7/14 respectively. Both packages were also listed in Sacramento for several days until they were on the truck for delivery.
That first package I got was quite a treat. All of those K2's together in one box was a beautiful sight.
Got the (7/12) order one day late. This isn't too unusual, as I'm in a rural area and the Fedex guy doesn't seem to like the back roads. Fortunately, since the package was big, he came to the house rather than leaving it at a friendly shop in town.
Wow. I'm going to be quiet for a while. At least until the second order arrives...
-
This seems odd to me.
When I try to track my shipment, the last entry is departing Sacremento on 7-29.
Is the truck lost somewhere? Abducted by aliens? Hijacked by ninjas?
Frankly, I'm worried
I'm on the East Coast. For six days, "departed Sacramento" was the last entry. Only today (expected delivery date) did it change to "on truck for shipment". Unfortunately, it now shows a "Delivery Exception (customer not available or business closed)", neither of which was true.
-
I'm glad I ordered that as part of my second order! I'm looking forward to hearing it.
Ditto (another second order customer). The AMG review was lukewarm at best, but I decided to disregard it.

Johnny Griffin "A Blowing Session"
A bunch of recent RVGs have turned up in the "New Arrivals" section, eg Silver, Blakey, Mobley, Morgan, Hill (more than one of each). My queue just got longer.

I finally received shipment confirmation of my order from the evening of July 12. All 40 CDs ordered were shipped.
I ordered the evening of July 12 (close to midnight Eastern time). No shipment confirmation yet. Will phone tomorrow.
I suspect you will hear something tomorrow anyway. I received my shipping confirm this afternoon for an order placed at about 9:30 p.m. on July 12. They seem to be getting there -- albeit slowly.
Finally! Got the shipping confirm today, as you predicted. All 32 items were shipped. [Yes, I now know that 34 would've given me free shipping, but I didn't know at the time. And Concord didn't answer my "may I augment the order?" e-mail. ]

What would be a back breaker is if Concord decides to put another slate of 300+ cds on sale.........
True. But in light of the apparently overwhelming response to this sale, I wouldn't be surprised if the next sale went out at somewhat higher price points...
-
Carmell Jones Select. This is the first Mosaic I've bought. Love it. I see how these could become habit-forming.
-
I would have been interested in the Jazztet Mosaic, but blew the next couple of months' CD budget on the Concord Blow-Out Sale.
-
Guess I won't look for a response to my email.
Ditto. I asked if I could add 2 discs, to get over $100. Missed the opportunity to call.
-
How much do you have to order to get free shipping? If it's 40 or 50 CDs, I won't be upset, having been charged $15 on an order of 32 . But if it's "free shipping on orders of $100 or more", I'll e-mail Concord and try to amend the order to add two more discs...
[Added: it is free shipping on orders of $100 or more. So I'm going to try and amend.]
-
How did you get free shipping? I just ordered 30 titles, and they charged me $15 for Fedex, with no other option.
edit - that's STILL $3.48 per disc, shipped to my door, so I ain't complaining THAT much!
I don't know--I just ordered and ordered. Email confirmation also says free shipping.
Wow. I just ordered 32 discs @$2.98 and $15 Fedex was the only shipping option. Maybe there's another crossover point at 40 CDs. I'm gonna have to sell off some of my classical discs to fund this purchase...

New Piano Expressions also includes some solo tracks, which the tray card says aren't included in the Debut box. The solo stuff is excellent, particularly if you like "classically-influenced" playing.
