Recent Japanese acquisition that has really impressed. Takayanagi's Angry Waves.

FWIW it seems like the operations of Cadence/CadNor have been handed over for awhile, so especially now I don't think that one would have to feel like they're lining his pockets by purchasing from there. Still a one of a kind resource.
Agreed. Someone on the board (inclined to say Chuck but memory fails) reassured me on that front at least a couple of years ago.

I am thankful for Cadence and all the things that the label and magazine did, and he was the founder. He was also a very good writer and in later years he championed my writing. That felt like real validation, since I never knew or met him.
He was also a very fucked up individual. It would not shock me at all if he was abused as a young person, but I do not know. I feel empathy towards those whose lives he wrecked. I think one can hold the truths of his accomplishments and his terrible actions at the same time.
[Emphasis added] Good points, +1 on closing paragraph

RIP and respect for the magazine, label and contributions to music.
No comment on the elephant in the room beyond "it influenced my feelings".

That sounds FUN.
Definitely enjoyment and upbeat energy on a dreary semi-snowy day.
As great as Horace is and as much as I enjoy his music, occasionally I can get the feeling that his albums are kind of over-arranged, if that makes sense. But today I just had fun!
Next a mini-Stitt binge, details TBA if I get the energy.

Horace Silver binge: Blowin the Blues Away, Horace-Scope, Finger Poppin, Stylings of Silver.

Alex Ross, author of The Rest is Noise? No doubt about which G. L. it would be.

Recently bop and neo-bop
Barry Harris: Newer than New, Chasin' the Bird, Preminado, Magnificent!

...That's one of the "Free America" releases with interesting cover art. I have this particular album, which is a bit strange (less piano than you'd expect), but an excellent pickup.

😵 Oh man. That's a bummer.
Not so bad. There'll be another coupon offer before too long. Risk is significant items from the cart selling out in the meantime. As a chronic fence-sitter, it happens. I'd spent a bunch of money before year-end and understandably hesitated.
-
Yesterday I intended to place a cdjapan order, had a cart ready in advance.
But I overlooked the time difference, and the coupon I intended to use had expired (midnight 1/15 Japanese time).
Oh well, I did save the money.

Considering Al suffered what was described as a major heart attack in September, I would think that this meal should be of the "low fat" variety.
Facebook post dated today says the big 2024 tour starts this week (1/18, Houston). Jan is southern US, March Europe, April-May northern US.
Which suggests his health is OK.
But check the tour schedule before booking your dinner. 🧐

Don't we already have a thread on this?
There was definitely a thread about this. Some years ago, I'd guess 3 but not sure if it'd have been offered during height of Covid, so maybe more.
Too lazy and don't care enough to research, but I halfway wonder how much the price has gone up since then.
[Edit / added] Looked at the site and not sure the offer has changed since the previous thread...may be unchanged for all I know.

Great memory, actually my BFT 213 December 2021.
I was going to say precisely that! I believe I ID'd the track.

Sick this weekend, have to miss it. Ate dodgy (in hindsight) take-out at work Friday afternoon, was totally out of commission for 36 hours, not yet 100%.

I'm a big Hazeltine fan. These are all good. I really enjoy "I Remember Cedar."
Other Hazeltine Trio tribute albums I like are Alice in Wonderland (Evans) and Cleopatra's Dream (Powell).

Somebody had to win.
Hard to think about Wembanyama when his team is 7-30 (after a 2 game win streak).
Some really bad teams in the league this year.

This is a really deep subject which I'm not qualified to answer (not being a big harpsichord listener).
Maybe best to visit a classical forum. There you could find threads of scores of pages devoted solely to Bach WTC harpsichord recommendations, for instance.

I really want to go to this, weather permitting. Big storm expected Fri/Sat...if I don't get flooded or have extended power loss, expect to go.
I've never heard anything by gabby, but she's recently been praised on the avant-garde new releases thread.
Big group (maybe incl. people who rarely play together), improv,...will be interesting to hear the rehearsal and show back to back.

I burned some time investigating this and could find nothing. At his age (82 or 83?) album not likely IMO.
This 2022 interview alludes to a recording in the works, fwiw. https://www.uncut.co.uk/features/interviews/herbie-hancock-interview-140341/
