  1. brownie i like how you answered by question by releating my question directly to how Hank Mobley is affected by the answer to my question
  2. ive been seeing and passing on a lot of these lately. i dont own one. with the liberty stuff, at least i know the lineage, KIND OF. but where do these toshiba/emi "king" lps come into play. when are they from. HOW ARE THEY MADE. are the actual masters sent to japan for mastering or what is known about the origin of these lps. ive heard there supposed to sound good. so do they come from original master tapes. did they really let japan borrow those over the years? i know nothing about these releases, what is the origin of the transfer. i cant immagine anyone attempted to ship a blue note master tape in a box to japan. how are these done?
  3. this lp is really interesting, its a groovin' classic jazz b3 organ sound but in the context of the "nashville sound"...country organ. never heard anything like this before!
  4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWloYqmYpng I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH, IT SO SO BEAUTIFUL AND INSPIRING
  5. WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?!?!?!??!?!!??!?!
  6. i didnt get it yet but i saw this crazy weird joe henderon lp from 1977 today, joe was going crazy. it was free jazz-city. joe and a trio. it really didnt even sound like joe, i mean it was his tone but not his style, at all....i went with a kenny burrell and jack mcduff lp on prestige instead
  7. THE LABELS ARE REVERSED. even the deadwax. side2 label has the B matrix, side one has the "A"....i knew something was fishy at first when asiatic raes didnt come on but i thought hell ive prob forotten the track order after all this time, but no i was right at first. side 1 matrix A is really side TWO. side 2 matrix B which is on right now.....starts with asiatic raes....the true side 1. "go buy the fred cohen book go buy the fred cohen book" that all im hearing nowdays. well fred put THAT in yr pipe and smoke it, i bet his book doenst tell u abt THAT....
  8. it IS a revelation. "Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh only the true 1st press MONO costs 400 dollars! 2nd issue, 1st issue stereo only costs a fraction of that! LOLZZZZZZZZZ" how have i missed this for so long, jeez
  9. picked up a near mint lib. stereo GOIN' UP today....should be real good
  10. perfect condition bjp 'oh baby' ny usa
  11. this remind me of the early days of the net when there was good stuff on it, why dont more places have this- this is fantastic
  12. so he was not woring at all for god knows how long, and he was rediscovered, only recently? thanks for the link
  13. *re- thank you for posting that i never knew to look out of a stereo liberty grants first stand, chuck is right towards the end of the list its not what i was lookin for, re- gigolo,....that was rel. just on liberty in stereo except promo only mono. i was trying to track stuff down in your list like grants 1st stand: bn monos that i can be on the lookout for for the 1st stereo issue, but nonvangelder stamped on liberty. cause apparently i can find these easier. i have african beat vol 1 as well ive neglected to mention. i wont be actively searchin for a grants 1st stand liberty stereo but ive never seen one i dont believe, (or maybe, but i cant really recall)..cause i have the 1st issue and both the singles for the album. i kind of regret that one of them i payed like freaking 40 bucks for, when i was freaking out about it and thought there was a snowalls chance in hell of gettin a lp-length cut of it for under 400 big ones. then i got one for like 50 bucks. ""check please!""
  14. i have never seen on the net (or in person) a soul station, classic cover, liberty issue. just "crazy cover". is there a classic cover stereo liberty issue? or just crazy cover. (giant mobley head superimposed over a train station).
  15. 29 titles released on liberty for the 1st time in stereo? post the list! post the list!
  16. OK, sorry about that. The jacket on mine still says "electronically reprocessed" anyway. yea, the stock liberty elec. repro logo....like on the hollies """stereo"""" greatest hits
  17. RIP. only 44. ok, heres the story about what happened at the Heavy D concert in Seattle. it was 1991, there was a huge concert at the kingdome: LL Cool J, w/ Heavy D & the Boyz. Heavy D's limo pulls up outside the kingdome and he gets out. some bros are ...shootin' dice, Heavy D asks if he can join in. so they're shooting dice, and Heavy D wins. the guy holding the cash says "man youre Heavy D your rich ass dont get no..." and before he finished the sentance Heavy D punched him in the mouth breaking all his front teeth out, grabbed the cash from the guys hand, and got back in the limo
  18. no, mine is classic label-style, a div. of liberty
  19. would love to see that book. what is the complete list of Liberty pressings which issue the stereo mix for the 1st time: so far i have: -Byrd In Flight -Whistle Stop -Leeway all 3 sound **incredible**. why do you think only certain sesions were issued in both mono and stereo, and others just in mono? for example i have early blue train, and monanin's, in stereo....
  20. oh yea! brownies famous trip to the blue note offices! where u saw roy haynes get mad cause they wouldnt give him a free copy of song for my father, lol
  21. THE MONO BUTTON works really well on this particular lp. you click it and lees trumpet goes, on the last track for example, from hard left, to everywhere- it sounds good. i hardly ever really use the mono button, but when the tpts panned hard left and comming out, essentially in "mono" out of just left speaker, tapping the mono button allows it to be "MORE STEREO" for me, by leaving it "IN MONO"...does that make sense
  22. whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa, brownie you have a Blue Note Records WHAT-a-log? really? is it like a pamphlet? its from 1966? wow. what does it say abt hank mobley? are any of his listed in there as mono only. wow. how big is this thing? how come ive never seen one? how come i dont have one too? how come i dont have one too for every year? how come i dont have one from every year autographed by jackie mclean. i would of had him sign that instead of my blue note photography book when i met him in 2001. thats right, i met jackie mclean! brownie i drove from seattle to san francisco for this show, in one swoop, it was flipping crazy i have noticed i spelled lee morgan wrong in title of thread, gorts can you please fix that, sry, thanks
  23. listening right now, from my ltd knowledge (no hardcore bn/liberty datasheets, every copy of every pressing of every record, etc)- i guess this liberty issue is the 1st stereo issue, rvg never made a stamper for the stereo cause it was only issued in mono only originally (from what i GATHER....* need conf of this from u guys).....it sounds good. i have no rvg mono to compare it to, but i would even bet it sounds a lil better cause mine is mint and any leeway orig pressing i can afford prob will be messed up. im pretty happy with this right now
