  1. Recently listened to my vinyl of this fine session called Counceltation. In 1972 Lester Koenig repressed the lp with a new title and cover - great color shot of Curtis on the street outside the Contemporary offices. I wish they'd reissue a 24 bit of this date with the politically correct (and better) cover. Concord could do worse than a set of the Counce Contemporaries. I think someone was listening to you. But is this a Concord release? http://www.dustygroove.com/item.php?id=tcb...ef=upcoming.php I can't find the Counceltation cover with Curtis anywhere on the net. Can someone post it, or link to it? I am certainly enjoying the Counce Contemporaries.
  2. If you liked this, try Thelonious Monk Big Band and Quartet in Concert. I think it's even better. Get the CD for the full, unabridged concert. What is amazing to me is the big band is voiced like Monk's piano, underscoring Monk's genius in a fantastic way.
  3. I can't find a clip of this on the 'net, anyone? Also, is this available on vinyl or CD? I just picked up Sonority by the Curtis Counce Group, I like their version of A Night In Tunisia. Gerald Wilson on trumpet, with Harold Land, Carl Perkins, Counce, and Frank Butler. These guys always cooked.
  4. Monk comes so many different ways- solo, trio, quartet, tentet. Or the different periods with different tenor saxmen. I am finding them all interesting, but I recently picked up the Monk Big Band and Quartet In Concert at the Philharmonic, and was blown away. I like this better than Town Hall. The tentet is voiced like Monk's piano, this was quite a successful evening. I picked up the CD, the vinyl does not contain the complete concert, or full versions of some of the songs.
  5. That's my new favorite too, Dan. Yes, Scott, I can just call up her voice on this one in my mind, which is usually hard for me to do. And I think Ella's take on the beat is great, and unique, too. That said, this thread has motivated me to look for other covers I own of this tune. Chuck's post reminded me I've got this on the recent Uptown Records Gillespie/Parker Town Hall 1945 CD. That will get played this afternoon.
  6. I logged out and can browse the forum. Thanks!
  7. Ping stevehoffman.tv results in: 209.86.66.91, four packets sent and received. I can't access the site using this, however. From one of the threads discussing this, I've got a favorite as http://66.39.28.179/forums/index.php, and this successfully accesses the forum main page. But it's a no-go from there.
