Right. Sorry, lost my bearings for a second there. Now then... I've never heard a difference between 48 and 96. And to be perfectly honest, I'm not sure I've ever heard a difference between 44.1 and 48. But, at my relatively ripe young age of 43, with a pretty moderate case of tinnitus, I'm not sure it even matters...

I'm not convinced 96kHz even makes a difference to begin with. What does it even mean, to begin with? We can't hear anything at that level...

Truer words were never spoken. I will never understand those who frequently claim to be bored; life's too short for that. +1000

Yep. And based on what I've heard, I can completely understand that. But, the cat just gets it done. Dunno...
-
That's the next album up in my queue, Tom. I find the cat fascinating, and I've chosen to follow his discography in chronological order. I heard some bits and pieces from that one last night, and really enjoyed what I heard. That's one of his trio albums, isn't it? I'm a huge horn-led trio nerd.

Let me tell you something, Jerry. There is no thin skin involved. Even those with the thickest skin would have been disheartened by some of the rude and disrespectful things that were said. Like many here, I'm glad the bat signal reached you and that you chose to check in. (special thanks to Mr. Secor) Now, do us all a favor and stick around. Please? You've been missed. Hey, if nothing else, help us help you piss off the self-righteous fucks who shit on you. You've got a lot of good people, and me, in your corner. Post on, my brother!

Can't listen right now, Allen. But, thanks! Can't wait to hear them on my big boy pants system.

From what little I heard from Grace it did indeed sound like it's right up my alley.
-
Yeah, I actually found out about him by reading through many "best of 2013" lists for Jazz albums. It seemed like Grace was at, or near, the top of every last one. But, I always hate to get into a cats latest/greatest without hearing some of the earlier material first. Heard a little bit of the trio album that came before that (The Bull And The Matador, I think it was called), and that sounded fantastic. But, In Search Of was just a really odd experience. After the first couple of tunes I was thinking, "is this cat serious?!" But then the further I got into it, the more I was just simply enjoying what I was listening to. But, it's nice to know you've heard a lot more of him and still can't put your finger on what makes his music so appealing. Now I don't feel so bad for my confusion concerning him.

Does anyone else here listen to Mr. Allen at all? I did a search, but came up with nothing. I got his debut album, In Search Of, the other night and sat and gave it a really close listen last night. I'll have to give it another listen, but my first impressions are that he kinda sounds like he's trying really hard to be some kind of weird hybrid of Coltrane and Rollins, yet doesn't really succeed. That said, I found myself thoroughly enjoying his attempt. Of course, I also had to keep in mind this was his debut as a leader, and there is some definite promise there. With the exception of one avant garde-lite track which I found rather messy and pointless, the cat sounds like a keeper. I'm looking forward to diving into more material. Anyone else dig him?
-
Yeah, he always struck me as a nice cat. I hope he is well, also.

Yeah, the technology has really matured exponentially just in the last few years. I find it rather amazing these days.

I'd bet money on it, Sonny. I thought some of the comments were unnecessarily mean, but that's just my opinion. I don't think he meant for his posting habits to upset others.

Let's Take A Walk Inside Dusty Groove, Shall We?

Books-A-Million? We had those in Florida. -
You should, and post your results. I can tell a difference at 160kbps, but haven't tried 192 yet. Who knows, that may be my threshold. Daniel, did you hear a difference at 192? Oh, and to be clear, I'm using AAC and not MP3. Though, I do still have some MP3 files I've purchased from Emusic, and recently downloaded a 256 AAC copy to compare. I heard no difference between the two formats at comparable bit rates.

For some bizarre reason I always thought Dusty Groove was in NYC. I must have been mixing it up with DTMG. We go to Chicago about once a year (7 hour drive from Jefferson City), and I have never been in there. I'll have to pay a visit next time we're in town. -
What was your cutoff point, Daniel? Mine is somewhere around 256kbps. At least when it comes to VBR AAC files. Once I get there, I hear zero difference between the file and the original cd. And I've tried like hell to convince myself that I do!

You think? Looks like a pretty good size record store, IMO (did you look at it from the back?). Nice to know at least one still exists... -
Are free jazz ringtones really free?
Scott Dolan replied to Larry Kart's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I actually thought it was more a philosophical question. You know, like is Eric Dolphy really Free Jazz? -
Maybe Avantone speakers will do the job, but I'm not a expert. Does Scott have a opinion? I'm completely unfamiliar with that speaker. Looks like it's a pretty decent speaker with good specs, but Allen said he doesn't like studio monitors so it likely isn't the speaker for him. I will say this, a buddy of mine with a small studio once told me he always had a small set of decent speakers that he would use during the final mix because he wanted to know what it would sound like on lower quality consumer speakers because that would be what most people would be listening to his music on. That's what these speakers are designed for, and I know he'd love them. Matter of fact, I'm going to send him that link. It will definitely put a smile on his face.

Which explains my 120W into 4ohm amp.
-
Though, I do have one question: what the hell do you do with a thousand watts of power?! Do you live in a football stadium?
-
*bows humbly* porcy, that amp is just fucking amazing. Jealous! And I mean BIG time jealous...
-
Good lord! I'll say. Those are absolute beauties! I prefer black due to my overall theme, but I'd be pleased as punch with those. What model are they?
-
I think their amps look pretty nice, porcy. Pre-amps, well...not so much. The pre looks like they making fun of Marantz. But the amps have a nice, clean look. Then again, it's pretty difficult to fuck up an amp as far as looks are concerned.
