"Blood Sutra" is one of my favorite Iyer discs... highly recommended!
(and now that I think about it, I have that one from eMusic, but I'd prefer to have the "real thing". PM sent! )

This is probably a minority opinion around here, but very little of the J.J. Johnson Mosaic box has ever really hit me.

Yes. All I know is that any problem can be solved through better marketing. No deep thinking required.

If the only thing that needs to happen is "thinking hard about how to pitch it to young listeners", then it doesn't deserved to be "saved".

.....or maybe.....
That's what I thought of first!

Take a look at Comodo.
I've been using the (free) firewall/anti-virus product for at least a year now (it replaced both AVG and Zone Alarm), and it seems to be well regarded.
I haven't had any virus issues, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything -- all of my email is handled on my (Linux) laptop.
Also, the firewall feature can be somewhat over-zealous. I (initially) got tons of "warnings" about things that weren't really problems. But, after a little bit of regular use, it rarely complains anymore.
Good Luck!

Or, Reptet's Samantha Boshnack- fine trumpet and fine arrangements, too!
In particular, her solo on Harpo from Reptet's "Do This!" always gets me. :rsmile:
As mentioned earlier, Mary Halvorson (Dragon's Head is fantastic), and Ingrid Jensen.

Darcy James Argue's Secret Society - Infernal Machines

Welcome to the board, pradeshta!
You mentioned that you have the Louis Armstrong JSP box set... also highly recommended is the Jelly Roll Morton 1926-1930 set on the same label.

"Sweet Rain" here. Beautiful record.

Big :tup to Mr. Lawrence... I've heard him play with both the Truth In Jazz Orchestra, as well as the Grand Rapids Jazz Orchestra. His big band performances were always exciting and noteworthy... and I always regret that I didn't catch him in performance with a smaller group. Every time I've heard him play, I was always interested in hearing more.
From the not-to-common-knowledge-department: A few years back, Chris was instrumental in organizing a local open mike/jam session here, in this (relatively) small town area of roughly <150,000 people (in the whole county). There's a very small, but loyal, following of "jazz" fans around here, and it takes a certain amount of... well, you know, to even attempt to get something like that together.
Wishing him continued good luck at both Blue Lake, and in Oregon!

lots 'o thunder and lightning up in these parts right now... might have something to do with it.

I'm in, tuning in right now!
(TIJO kicked ass tonight, looking forward to hearing organissimo do the same!)

I think I understand what Marcello is saying, but I don't think I'd call it "too white".
I'd be more inclined to say "File Under: New Age".
And that is not meant to be a put down -- it is what it is, and I simply don't care for it. I'm also interested to hear TM's thoughts.

this thread brings back some warm memories!!!

How did it go, TTK?
Is the show archived yet? For some reason, I was thinking it was 9PM EST, not 9AM -- I missed it.

Brown / Roach at Basin Street.
Not "live", of course, but a great album.
"Members, Don't Get Weary", burning with Tolliver, Bartz, Cowell and Merritt in 1968. Contains the finest recording of Cowell's gorgeous "Effi".
This record is currently rockin' (or would it be more properly called "jazzin'" ) my world.
Thanks for the recommendation, felser, WD45, rooster.
I love this friggin' board. Costs me money, yet enriches my life.

Do you guys cover any tunes by Boston? Maybe "More Than A Feeling", exotica Latin style?
Just kiddin'... seriously, I enjoyed the youtube videos, and congrats on the upcoming live studio show. Looking forward to tuning in!

Any thoughts on the Braxton/Roach record?
I need to go back and listen again... it's been awhile.
There were two - one on Soul Note & then a live double album on Hat. I think they're both indispensable. The Soul Note had the WOW factor for me becuase it was first, and was therefore a big surprise (besides being truly WOW in every way), but the Hat has the distinction of having longer performances, which may or may not be an advantage depending on how you look at it, but you do get to hear the ideas stretched out more.
I also prefer the Soul Note, but fore the exact reason that Jim mentions. It was the one I heard first. I do actually prefer the more succinct tracks to the extended performance on Hat a lot of the time.
Thanks for the comments... I have the one on Black Saint (not Soul Note?), and need to get the Hat on order.
