  1. Bob Flanigan passed away May 15. I had the pleasure of meeting him about fifteen years ago. I got his autograph for my sister, who had Five Trombones when it was new. He was 84, so he lived his biblically allotted years and then some, but I still feel like we lost a part of the 50s. I'll put on something by the Freshmen tonight. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obituaries/culture-obituaries/music-obituaries/8524476/Bob-Flanigan.html
  2. Steve Spurrier, with the support of a number of SEC coaches, today suggested that the coaches pay the players $300 a game. That comes to $300,000 for the team for the season. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/steve-spurrier-others-propose-paying-football-players/article2043469/
  3. Shaq has announced that he will retire. http://www.foxnews.com/sports/2011/06/01/shaquille-oneal-announces-retirement-web-video/
  4. The Riders released Chris Szarka, who is now 36. Rob Bagg has re-injured his knee, and is likely out for the year. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/roughriders-endure-a-rough-day/article2043129/
  5. The Riders' second round pick, an OL named Matt O'Donnell, is so big, at 6'11", 340, that he will first try out with the Boston Celtics before signing with Sask. He hasn't played basketball since high school, but the Celtics are giving him a tryout??? http://www.tsn.ca/nba/story/?id=367498
  6. Happy Birthday mellowT! They're partying in San Diego!
  7. Happy Birthday 2011 Durium!
  8. The Als have signed Sandro DeAngelis. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=367379
  9. Thanks, guys. The 5CD box goes for $20.61, so I have put that on my wish list. http://www.amazon.com/Original-Album-Classics-5-CD/dp/B0042FU4IC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1306782272&sr=1-2
  10. Happy Birthday Pete!
  11. Is this album as good or better than Oberlin and College of the Pacific?
  12. Thanks! I think I will order the true 2008 release after you confirm which one it is.
  13. Lon, Amazon shows the cover of the 2008 release to be a "Columbia Jazz Masterpiece", which I would have figured would have been the 1989 release. The two editions have different prices. Do you think that Amazon switched the covers?
  14. I'm rooting for Vancouver because the folks in BC care about hockey more than the folks of New England, although I think the New Englanders care more than the rest of America. In addition, a championship would be a nice consolation for losing their basketball team.
  15. Greg, that was Edmonton against the Hurricanes.
  16. I learn today that Marc Trestman published an autobiography last year called Perseverance! http://www.amazon.com/Perseverance-Life-Lessons-Leadership-Teamwork/dp/0978780930/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1306538492&sr=1-1 http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/als-eager-to-begin-cfl-title-defence/article2038034/
  17. Here's a brief but good update on the Riders' situation. Gary Etcheverry has left the coaching staff. CFL rookie camps begin June 1, and the veterans report five days later. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/gary-etcheverry-resigns-from-roughriders-coaching-staff/article2036697/
  18. Jason Maas has announced his retirement. He was one of the best for a while, but he should have quit when he got hurt years ago in 2005. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=366978
  19. Thanks Lazaro! I also enjoyed the set with Sonny's comments available at the end of the Miles set.
  20. Ray Mariuz has announced his retirement. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=366962
  21. Happy Birthday 2011 Amir!
  22. I went looking for Blue Notes, and found very few. In fact, I found very little jazz.
