I did my best to keep them in business.....as a music store, at least. I even bought a decent amount of books at each of the Borders stores here over the years.
How am I supposed to browse my personal collection of e-books, anyway? It's just not the same.

Let me add that he does what he does very well, technically impeccable with a strong, unambiguous POV cleanly and clearly expressed. It's just that I don't trust him but to not use his skills to tell the unvarnished truth and let it speak for itself rather than to manipulate heartstrings and brainwaves (and of course, pocketbooks) with enough "truth" to make questioning his work come off as curmudgeonly. Oh well about that. Curmudgeons are a necessary and useful part of the food chain.
Tyhe jazz series was the first time that one of his major works had drawn serious scrutiny & criticism from the community which it portrayed, and it was interesting to watch how he kinda weaseled every which way on that one. But that whole process pulled the curtain back on his whole process, and...things haven't been the same since, at least not for me. Apparently, his vaunted Civil War doc had been receiving some of the same criticisms, but the emo factor there was so high that nobody paid attention. And the baseball thing, well, yeah, I watched it & I loved it, but subsequent viewings leave a stickier taste in my mouth than I'd like. Again, too emo. The facts are strong enough to stand on their own, and he did do a damn good job of putting them out there. But geez, enough with the "sentiment", ok?
Whatever heartstrings I have left to pull, I don't want Ken Burns pulling them.
what is "emo"? I don't know the kids' slang these days...

I'd like to check out that Rogue Art too-what's on the DVD?
I got Far Side about a week after it came out, listened to it twice but with all of the other things I've gotten lately I haven't had much time to thoroughly listen to it. From the little I've heard, it certainly requires a dedicated listen. The first song is an epic. But I have liked just about everything recent that he has released (that I've heard), so I will be going back to it soon.

this blows my mind on so many levels-

The OTC box was offered at a mistakenly low low LOW price by..Jazz LOft, right? And they honored their mistake, right? Is that what happened? Pretty sure that's where/when I got mine.
And yes, great design, but lousy (or at least inadequate) liner notes. That music still hasn't been looked at technically the way it should be as often as it should be. All we get is a bunch of emo "electric jungle" & "Sly meets Stockhausen" and all this and all that, which is as good as far as it goes, and sufficed for a while, but... there's a lot of stuff going on in that music.
Wasn't the low price mistake by CD Universe on the Cellar Door box? $38?
You're right about the lousy notes in the Corner box. I couldn't believe that this is what they released it with, when all of the others had so much more information and analysis.

I never knew there were sub-fora...where do I find them?

Assuming the B's hold on for another ten minutes, I'm not sure there will ever be a more deserving winner of the Conn Symthe trophy than Tim Thomas. I don't think I've ever seen a goaltender perform at this high a level over such a long stretch of the most important games any hockey team ever plays.
Wow. Just a SLIGHT exaggeration, there.
Two, three years from now, it will be Tim who? He's a decent goalie, but clearly Vancouver was kept off their game by Boston's more physical game and superior defense. It's not like Thomas had to face the '84-'85 Oilers!

i've been told that my copy is defective, although i don't hear it.

android. never going back. it just gets better and better.

So far the Google version is superior. Very simple to use and no problems yet. They haven't announced what the price will be, though.

Me neither. I did sign up for Twitter. Can I follow you on that, Chuck? Maybe I'll just email you when something comes up, as usual.

I'm not a facebook person, and have no interest in becoming one. Would this still work for me?

When was the last time a Canadian team was in the finals? Was it Calgary against Carolina, in something like 2004? When was the last time a Canadian team had a chance in the finals? Probably Montreal in 1993, right? So Vancouver might actually have a shot this year, as I sort of predicted way back at the beginning of this thread!

Sorry, that was my fault. Netflix is now available for my Evo and I've also been streaming music from the Amazon cloud.
IE is notorious for being a slow browser. Use Chrome, and try using Google's DNS (I think it's 8.8.8.8? google it!)

I've ordered it from CD Universe and it's not in stock yet. I don't know what the defect is. If you're not hearing it, maybe it's a subtle one.

You sure? I got my copy from Borders last week. I like it.
The June 7th date is posted on the ECM facebook page as well.

I have it sitting beside me on the desk as I type. I loaded it into iTunes last week. I don't know what else to say. I know I'm not dreaming. I've listened to it three times.
My guess is that you have one of the defective ones that leaked out.
where's the defect? It plays fine, the booklet is in good shape....why are people having such a hard time believing that it's out now? Has anyone else actually tried to order it yet?

IT'S DEAD. Message says "not accepting new customers".
Pretty sure they haven't been accepting new customers for quite some time. Same goes for adding new titles. But yes, they're clearly dead.

I've used Skype sparingly, mainly because of the quality. Too much delay or something, but that may have been due to the other parties' computer. I actually had a job interview over Skype, though. I'm sure 10+ years ago, this same company would have arranged for an on-site interview, but with Skype, it was a simple video conference call.
For cheap calling, I use Google Voice. It's integrated with my Sprint cell service so I just dial any number from my cell phone and if it's international, Google Voice automatically takes over and low rates (not Sprint's criminal rates) apply, or if I'm calling Canada, it's free. Plus, you can call from your computer using Gmail or the Google Voice interface. Pretty slick.

some wicked wind blowing through here this weekend. Actually saw some snow this morning too. Nice!

Wow, a Monkees thread. Is this place turning into the Hoffman forum?

it's Vancouver's year this time, isn't it?

I have had some of the same problems in later years, and had to cut out food containing chemicals and high sugar content, as well as being very strict on what kind of soaps, shampoos I use. Before that I had regular rashes that were very dry and itching, and I had to use hydrocortizon cream regularily. Going over to organic or slow food, and reducing intake of processed food was the way to go for me. Taking natural fats like olive oil, cod liver oil and GLA was also helpful.
Your last point, that's the key I think to overall reduction in inflammation in your body. Take as much omega-3 oils (DHA and EPA), especially from fish sources, as you can.
Borders Enters Chapter 11, Plans To Close 30% Of Stores

Opposite situation with the flagship store in Ann Arbor. Situated downtown, stand-alone store, always a lot of people using it as a hang-out in that area (especially during Art Fair week or when something good was playing at the Michigan Theater across the street that people were waiting for), and many, many times was I accosted to sign petitions in front of that store.
