  1. The Bitches Brew 40th will contain alternate takes of "Spanish Key," "John McLaughlin" and "Miles Runs The Voodoo Down." The previous 4-CD "Complete Bitches Brew Sessions" contained no alternate takes from the actual sessions.

Yeah. Pretty "Complete", huh? I should get a refund.

  2. Definitely sounds worthwhile. Hopefully it will show up on YourMusic. If not, I'll certainly buy it.

ECMs have not been hitting Yourmusic recently, not like I have been expecting them to. Any ECM new release I'm interested in, I just buy it now.

They seem to be selective. The recent Steve Kuhn, Keith Jarrett, John Abercrombie and Miroslav Vituous titles showed up after a long, long while, but other recent titles like John Surman's last one are MIA. They do carry another Crispell title, so who knows ...

This new Crispell looks too good to wait for yourmusic so I pre-ordered it from Borders with the latest 40% coupon.

  3. Seems like if it's the broadcast crew for the team pitching the no-hitter, they'll avoid using the term and speak more vaguely about "something special developing here," or words to that effect. For a nation broadcast though, I guess the "homer" factor is out the window and the announcer just describes what's happening.

So, if the broadcasters are pulling for a no-hitter, they'll only refer to it in general terms. If they're impartial, they should have not qualms about saying, "Lilly's got a no-hitter through seven innings in Chicago."

But that's not what happened in the Galaragga perfect game I just described two posts above. The Tigers announcers were clearly discussing a perfect game for at least 3 innings!

  4. I never had any opinion on it until Galaragga's perfect game (yes, it was a perfect game, despite the umpire), when by the 7th inning the radio announcers began pointing out that not only were there no hits, no runs, no baserunners, no walks, no errors, but it was a PERFECT GAME! I thought that they shouldn't be saying it. Just mention the usual box score-type updates and be done with it until it's official.

  5. The Fillmore East Deluxe has Midnight Rider and One Way Out which also appear on the Eat a Peach Deluxe (they are from the last Fillmore show, June 27 1971 or something like that). The rest of the Fillmore Deluxe is from the March shows that made up the original release. Get them both. Skip that box (it's not really a box, it's just a double disc set).

  6. If you're a Red Wing fan, that was fun to watch. For the first time in this series, they played a solid game on both sides of the puck. Franzen gets the natural hat in the first period and Todd Bertuzzi dials up a four point night. Looks like some hard feeling are starting to develop. I think that's good for the Wings. That B.S. from Joe Thornton in the third period was bush league all the way. No wonder they ran him out of Boston. While a win is a win, Detroit still has a monumentally steep hill to climb. In the history of the SCP, only two teams have come back from 3-0 deficits, so this is, at best, the longest of shots. But, if they can find a way to win on Saturday night, then it starts to get interesting. One game at a time guys.

The other series that's starting to throw off some sparks is the Habs and Pens. That was some intense hockey being played in the third period at the Forum tonight. I see that series going seven. I'd love to see the Canadians win this one.

They haven't played @ the Forum since '96....

  7. I ordered his new disc from Amazon and I'm excited to hear it. I caught some Wilco on TV recently, and for a rock band Cline does some stuff that's out there- very cool and still within the tune they're playing.

Yeah- he's the reason I became re-interested in Wilco after AM (I like Tweedy's Uncle Tupelo countryish roots but completely lost interest when he wanted to become Brian Wilson). Funny how a lot of Wilco fans don't like his "noodling".

Huh. Most Wilco fans I know love Nels' playing.

Not from what I can tell. All I hear is bitching about how much better things were with Jay Bennett, and that there is too much focus on the guitar now.

  9. Absolutely one of the most talented and unique players, musicians, I have ever heard (just happens that Adrian Belew is almost as good). Doesn't make me want to read his diary entries very often (sometimes they are fascinating, however).

  10. I can't get the webshop to load for me for some reason. What's the sale? I haven't bought a Collector's Club disc in probably 4 years.

It's just 10% off and it ends soon. I haven't bought any in about a year but will go for the complete Zurich '73 (I'm feeling weak & completist as part of it is on The Great Deceiver) and possibly a the Denver '72 (the more recent concert release, not the very early Summit? studio release.) This need probably comes out of expecting to be buying the next round of 40th Anniversary releases but they've been put off until September.

I've ignored those recent reissues because they just reissued everything between 1999-2001 (and they sound fine to me), and I don't have DVD-A, or any interest in watching archival videos more than once. Robert Fripp may deny being King Crimson, but he is definitely the King of Reissues.
