Wayne Shorter's latest Alegria has to be on the list of the best without question
-
I still think he'a great player but I'm less than impressed with Trumpet Evolution especially as he rerecords material-Joy Spring, etc-which he's already covered. Still, how many current trumpet players would even attempt to perform so many different styles? Hot House remains my favorite release of his.

I really like Arturo and consider him a major player these days. I just found out he will be at The Birchmere (good club but not known for jazz) in August and I will be there. I've been telling myself for years I have to catch this guy live sometime. I was listening to Hot House the other day-a killer album of latin big band jazz. I have his new cd-Trumpet Evolution- coming soon. Any posters share my enthusiasm for this artist?

I was listening to it yesterday and my wife kept saying this is really good. I've noticed each time I listen to it I hear a new element.

I like the way the band avoided that over the top playing that many b3 players think is the ultimate. Laid back and a good grove always work. Joe's guitar work is especially fine; however there are no slackers here. Production is outstanding for a small budget (I guess) cd. Hope you guys can come to DC sometime. maybe Bertrand can sponsor a show

Great discussion, but that's par for the course here. Good to see all the old BNBB posters resurfacing. I've been into a heavy rotation of mid 60s Miles lately so playing this album was a natural progression. I've always liked BM more so than HW. I remember seeing these guys right after the jaco era and being so impressed with Wayne's playing especially on soprano. Only certain players can make synths work in jazz. Zawinul is one, Corea another. Good choice for AOW.

I'm just really listening to this period for the first time so I'm not gonna vote yet but I will. If anyone would care to share some of the boots with me, email or PM me. I have a few things to trade or could do B&P

I don't have Footprints yet but it's on the list. Wayne is on a roll. Hope he comes through DC again.

got it today. this is a tremendous cd. There's a lot going on here and I will need time to fully absorb it all but I can tell everyone one thing-Wayne Shorter plays as well as he ever has on this recording. Go get this one asap

Anyone got it yet? 4 stars at AMG and I like what I read

i'm tracking that ebay auction as well but i don't want to get in a bidding war with another poster so PM me if you actually bid on it. Another box set Are the volumes available separately? If so, what are the ones to have?

Got it today. Very, very enjoyable. I hope you guys get to DC one day. Great job Jim, Joe, and Randy. For anyone who likes B3 jazz, don't miss this one. Great recording as well; those bass pedals really make my sub woofer rock!

I'm listening to his stuff with Wes Montgomery (from the Impressions collection) as I type this. What's the name of the actual cd they did together and is it worth picking up? I also really like the dotcom blues cd he released recently
-
as a way to thank our host, I just ordered his cd. The least I could do

no sale of cdrs but trading ok. ebay links as long as this site doesn't turn into one long set of links to ebay auctions. Had a nasty email from an ebay seller who misled me yesterday.
