  1. Thanks Couw for your additions. Tack one is indeed Michiel Braam and his Bik Bent, more complete Bentje Braam as this is a smaller version of his Bik Bent ( =big band). I won't ask you for the title, as it looks like matrix numbers. This is the info. Thanks Couw Bentje Braam: Frank Gratowski as, Iain Ballamy ts, Michiel Braam p, Wilbert de Joode b, Martin France dm ) Recorded at the Villa VPRO Hilversum (The Netherlands) 21 December 1997 Track 8 is the Pim Jacobs Trio. Correct. It should be for you rather easy to find out the title, personel of his trio and the recording date for this track as it was his first recording ...... 350 x | Keep swinging Durium
  2. Sorry MG. The tracks you refer to are from 1987 and 2003 and the guitar players are complete different persons. BTW: Oscar Aleman died in 1980. But it is true that the guitar player on track 10 also plays on track 4 and track 6 of the second CD 350 x | Keep swinging Durium
  3. Thanks King Ubu for your reply Yes, it's Toshiko Akiyoshi op piano. Any idea about the rest of the info? Yes it is - Jan Allan on trumpet as a guest to this trio. He is not a regular player of that band. The trio ( with a woman on alto saxophone ) is from neighbouring country with great jazz tradition. It is, but who is that great baritone that sound like Gerry and who can sing like Chet's playing. And in a previous message I told that both the bass player and the drummer played with ......... Chet. In my web log dedicated to Valentine's Day ( My Funny Valentine ) you can see both musicans !! Thanks King Ubu .............. 350 x | Keep swinging Durium

  5. did not listen in as i have had no time and might just have to visit.... but perusing here alllows me to get one right! Toby Rix and The Kollekteif and he's playing this Thanks Man with the Golden Arm !! You found it !! 14. I Want To Be Happy ( Vincent Youmans ) 1:23 Willem Breuker Kollektief ( featuring Toby Rix – toeterix ) Recorded live in Krasnapolsky, Amsterdam Dec. 1988 ( Metropolis – Willem Breuker Kollektief (BV Haast CD 8903 ) ) Mind that the picture you posted Toby Rix is from the 1950s. I posted some pictures made during this recording session at my web log. 350 x | Keep swinging Durium
  6. Roy Hargrove is the trumpet player and of course Willie Jones III on drums. Correct !! But Ray Brown should have been 77 and my bass player is more a youngster ... 75 years old at this recording !! Both players passed away recently. 350 x | Keep swinging Durium
  7. You're right, the website is wrong: it's Bert Joris. 350x | Keep swinging Durium
  8. Sidewinder pointed this one to Antea by the Don Ellis Big Band, live at Bill Graham's Fillmore West in san Francisco, June 1970. I refered to the weird story how I found this recording: Enjoy it Thanks so far, King Ubu. After diner I'll start with the second part. 350 x | Keep swinging Durium
  9. Thanks Andrew for your reply. I'll forward some notes to your suggestions and give some indication for further research ! Track 10 is not Keith Jarreth, but one of our leading Dutch bebop piano players. His last project was a small tour with Bud Shank. Track 4 has been labeled succesfully by Sidewinder already - it's the Belgian group of Philip Catherine with Bert Joris on trumpet. Track 5 is played by a group of a very succesfull Dutch alto saxophone player, who wun a great price last year. I heard him in concert, 22nd of January, with his quartet and enjoyed his arrangements. Track 8 is in fact a more historical record, made by one of the leading Dutch piano players, who died in 1996. It is the first recording under his own name. Thanks for your commends ! 350 x | Keep swinging Durium
  10. Valentine's Day My Funny Valentine ( Rodgers & Hart ) Valentine's Day seems to have become a world wide celebrated day - people who love each other give each others presents to express their love. For me, true love, don't needs presents, but a good song, like My Funny Valentine can express more then a thousand chocolate hearts. - for me this tune is the right tune on the right place, specially made for the 14th of February. 11. Up to now four members have sent their commends to my BFT # 44. Their suggestions and remarks were interesting and some tracks could even be labeled correctly - some tracks gave enough clues to find out more information I guess. Great !! Of course I'd love to give you suggestions to help you on te right trail, but then I need commends from you. This week my daily Keep swinging web log is one year online and some info might be in my contributions. Good luck !![/b] BTW: If you forgot to ask for a copy or link contact me. 350 x | Keep swinging Durium

  15. I guess you mean Baden instead of Bud .............. Well I had the same experience, but if you read the track list + info it learns that they don't play together. I used the same words for the topic as the CD. I will make an addition ....... Hope you both survive your shock !! 350 x | Keep swinging Durium
  16. LAURINDO ALMEIDA & BADEN POWELL ( ... but, sorry, not together !! ) Can someone give me the recording dates for this compilation? Brasil Guitar Magic - info + track list 350 x | Keep swinging Durium
  17. Felix The Cat Today, 71 years ago, 7th of February 1936, the film Felix The Cat and The Goose that Laid the Golden Egg was released. So let's scedule it for today. Felix The Cat and the Goose that Laid the Golden Egg Keep swinging Durium
  18. Coleman Hawkins - The Ramblers Dance Orchestra Seventy-two (72) year ago, the 4th of February 1935, the most important recordings in the Dutch jazz history of the 1930s were made in The Hague. The great American tenor saxophone player Coleman Hawkins, who should develop himself into the most important tenor player of the XXth century, link between the traditional swing and modern jazz bebop styles, made five recordings for Decca with the Ramblers Dance Orchestra, who became internationally famous with these recordings. Time for a small party............................? Coleman Hawkins en de Ramblers Keep swingng Durium
  19. You're right Tooter. It is Walking Shoes. Maybe I should give some more indications to find the musicians that are in this band. Well, I told in MG's answers for this track, that this CD was released together with a series of concerts in remembrance of the fact that 75 years ago a great musician was born, who became famous in the 1950s piano-less quartets of Gerry Mulligan.............. well I guess everyone knows what musician I'm talking about. One of his great concerts was recorded in the Hitomi-Kinen-Ködö, in Tokyo in the summer of 1987 and the rhythm section, both the drummer as the bass player are present on this track 7 too ( Walking Shoes). Do you think I give some more indications? I hope some BFTesters, who haven't react yet, will make a bid for the correct answers. I'm ready for it !! Keep swinging Durium
  20. MILES DAVIS The Complete Live Recordings 1948 - 1955 This great, low priced 10 CD box of United Archives is very nice designed and has a complete discographical information inside. I will be clear, that the sound quality of the rare live recordings ( some were cut from private tapes, others from airshots) is not always from the same high standards as we like to have today, but I think this set is a must for everybody who wants to study Miles carreer from day to day. 23. Okeh !! You hit the right man, Svend Asmussen. Let's find out the rest of the information: Who's playing the guitar? You did it again !! Peter Bernstein is the guitar player !! But who's the leader of that group, who plays trombone without vibrato ( T), clean articulated ( S) and keeps the tune quite straight (T), who reminds of J.J. Johnson (S) and Kai Winding (MG)? And what about the trumpet player? Keep swinging Durium
