Could have been the Actuel Festival in October 1969 in Amougies: http://wiki.killuglyradio.com/wiki/Actuel_Festival

Where???.....I don't see any Uncle Meat or any of the titles available for pre order on Amazon. Uncle Meat: http://www.amazon.com/Uncle-Meat-Frank-Zappa/dp/B008BDZP08/ Hot Rats: http://www.amazon.com/Hot-Rats-Frank-Zappa/dp/B008BDZP3K/ Chuck, could you please elaborate a bit on the intended purpose of the meeting? Was there any particular agenda?

Got this set and listened to the Mussorgsky / Prokofiev CD. The performances are very muscular and exciting. The recording quality is quite harsh particularly the brass. The sound has been quite noticeably no-noised.
-
Uncharacteristically, in the Hot Rats case this is more or less clear - the master to be used for the new CD reissue is the one that was prepared for the Classic Records Vynil reissue from 2009: http://classicrecords.com/item.cfm?item=RS%206356-150G . I have not heard it, but the reviews are very positive, and it is apparently indeed very close to the original 1969 LP mix and sound.

This one I have, great piece.

The first batch of reissues is available for preorder on amazon. I will order Hot Rats and Uncle Meat - probably two albums most butchered by the old remastering.
-
Upcoming Glenn Gould Complete Bach. 44 CDs / DVDs for €74 as a preorder from amazon.it. I have some of it, but definitely not all. http://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B0086WQNZ0

Thanks, gentlemen. I will probably go for Anda / Fricsay - it's cheap and I have no familiarity with Anda at all, while I have heard some recordings by both Pollini and Kocsis. I have Fricsay conducting Kodaly (on DG as well) - love it. Was browsing some stuff on Bartok... stumbled upon a picture of him... does not he look like Robert Fripp?

Any comments on Richter on Teldec set: http://www.amazon.com/The-Teldec-Recordings-Concertos-Concerto/dp/B006W7SVQ0/ ?

3rd piano concerto is beautiful. Written when Bartok was already terminally ill. I have Argerich / OSM / Dutoit version. Interestingly, Frank Zappa is on record saying this is one of the mot beautiful pieces of music, and he even performed a nice little rearrangement of the 3rd piano concerto intro during the 1988 tour. Still have to hear the first two piano concertos. Recommendations are welcome.

Can't say about the solo violin sonata, but the resurgence of this thread peaked my interest to listen to the Zoltan Kocsis solo piano compilation on Philips that I have for ages and probably never even listened . Great stuff! Might go for the complete solo piano set.

I guess they were intending to have the booklet 600 pages long.

Herbert Kegel 15-CD box for €28 at amazon.de: http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00005TZJS/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?ie=UTF8&m=A3JWKAKR8XB7XF . Just ordered me a copy.

Complete Bach on Brilliant for €90: http://www.amazon.es/Complete-Edition-Box-Set-Various/dp/B003MRN6PY?SubscriptionId=AKIAIVGTH525N57WM2NQ&tag=pricenoia0e-21&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B003MRN6PY I think this is the cheapest I have seen this set.

Kirkpatrick Bach 8-CD set on Archiv / DG for $37 at amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002ANQW2

Go for British amazon then: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ligeti-Project-5cd-Box/dp/B0016A8E1K?SubscriptionId=AKIAIVGTH525N57WM2NQ&tag=galenicom-21&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B0016A8E1K Everybody here knows about appropriately titled Pricenoia service allowing to compare prices at various amazons, right: http://pricenoia.com/ligeti-project ? They got charts too!

Looks like these "cheapos" are coming directly from the manufacturer. Probably over-produced them and are liquidating the box themselves. The box was released just six months ago, too early to judge it a production over-run I'd say. Whatever, Harmonia Mundi knows how to lose money in style. Meanwhile, I listen to a couple of CDs from the set - the sound is stellar and the performances are excellent.

Got the Enlightenment box. It contains a 260-page booklet! In a budget box!!! Just printing it should have costed a small fortune. I don't get it.

Any recommendations for a recording of the piano trio?

Get "Greasy Love Songs" : http://globalia.net/donlope/fz/lyrics/Greasy_Love_Songs.html

With the expiration of the FZ/Ryko deal the whole catalog is to be reissued on Universal this year. Some titles are to be remastered, I am anxiously waiting for the first batch because Hot Rats and Uncle Meat badly need it. http://www.msopr.com/press-releases/zappa-family-trust-regains-control-of-iconic-musicians-extensive-catalog-global-licensedistribution-deal-signed-with-universal-music-enterprises/

Mustonen could be interesting. I like his Bach / Shostakovich stuff. My Safronitsky / Scriabin (2CDs) is from the excellent Legendary Russian Pianists box on Brilliant: http://www.amazon.de...39496578&sr=8-1 I will consider Chopin / Arrau, it costs nothing at amazon.es. I actually like the way Richter plays Chopin - also not cheesy at all.
-
I am not that much into Chopin. I like Scriabin, though, and for Scriabin you have to go to Sofronitsky recordings. I also like Nancarrow player piano, not sure if this counts . Late Beethoven sonatas by Gilels. Mozart by Bezuidenhout. Prokofiev by Sultanov and Pollini.

For Ligeti you might want to go for the cheapo box on Teldec (http://www.amazon.it/The-Ligeti-Project-Various-Composers/dp/B0016A8E1K?SubscriptionId=AKIAIVGTH525N57WM2NQ&tag=pricenoia-21&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B0016A8E1K )
