  4. Hey, I might actually go for VW / Haiting / LPO.
  5. Well, with EMI Classics and Virgin Classics absorbed into Warner, we will probably see another waive of cheap box sets of old stuff.

  8. Sultanov was excellent, it's such a shame he died so young.
  9. Pascal Roge's was my sole exposure to piano solo Debussy for years, and I never liked it. Thought I am just not into Debussy. Then I heard Richter and Fergus-Thompson playing Debussy, and realized that he is all right .
  10. Wow, even Debussy has to be HIP. Regarding the complete piano works, I am extremely happy with the one on Brilliant, Gordon Fergus-Thompson performing.
  11. Can't answer your questions, but can post my favorite performances of the 7th: Alexey Sultanov: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENKrPRKCOAg Maurizio Pollini (can't find a good-sounding full version, here is Precipitato only): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rfle8wSwJM
  12. I see Hyperion already updated the sale list. Some interesting stuff there (Schulhoff, for example).
  13. Hyperion is running a "please someone buy me..." sale on their unpopular items. Some good stuff there at low prices with shipping included. http://www.hyperion-records.co.uk/o.asp?o=1016&vw=dc&lang=1
  14. Courtesy of Le bons plans classique - complete Schubert sonatas played on period instruments by Paul Badura-Skoda (9 CDs) for €19, worldwide shipping included: http://www.outhere-music.com/en/albums/the-complete-piano-sonatas-played-on-period-instruments-a-364
  15. Yeah, I also placed a pre-order through amazon.co.uk, they have a good price: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00DHCJLWG/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i02?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  16. Baroque Opera, 39 CD set on Harmonia Mundi, available for preorder. http://harmoniamundiuk.wordpress.com/tag/baroque/
  17. OK, I finally got around to doing some A/B-ing of these boxes with the old CD issues using headphones. I checked Muhal Richard Abrams's "Blues Forever". It's a large band music allowing for a lot of dynamic variety. So yes, the new versions sound very treble-heavy and harsh. The large-ensemble passages are blurred and messy. The older versions sound significantly softer in comparison. For my ears, the old edition is much more enjoyable. Checked the Dixon "Live in Italy 1" - same thing.
  18. These Cyrille discs are really nice, the ones with Ted Daniel in particular. I guess I have most of them, so won't be buying the set. I have the Waldron set and it is indeed treble-heavy. Don't have the single CD issues to compare, though.
  19. Richter was one of the great pianists, but music from the Baroque Era was not his strong suit in my opinion. I agree.
  20. Elisso Wirssaladze... she is excellent. I hope she records this Ravel concert one day.
  21. It's a good one. Not sure pone needs 10 CDs of it. Used to be £18 at amazon.co.uk when I bought it in 2011, might still go down to that level.
  22. On Cecma. In good condition. Asking €50 ($66) plus shipping (around $5-7). Payment by PayPal.
  23. Yes, that's the one I have. i hope she gets to record the whole cycle once.
  24. This one is even cheaper at the UK amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00BM9I028/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE Strange collection, this one. have you heard any of it? No, was just looking at the track list.
