  1. up for additions

I am sending a PM re:

Lawrence Brown - Slide Trombone (Verve Elite Edition 1999) - $15

    Thanks!

EDIT: I think I sent you a message but it's not showing up in my "sent" box. I can do Paypal, just need your account address. Thanks again!

Sent PM. Let me know if you received it. I'll put it on hold for you until I know more.

  2. I'd sell you mine except:

    a) I lost the DVD

    b) I got rid of Small Talk and replaced it with the remastered Greatest Hits (which Sony/Legacy shoulda done in the first place!)

    c) I'd rather not! :g

Sounds like you got some good leads, though. Good luck!

What DVD? I'm looking at my box right now (before sending it to Peter tomorrow); ain't no DVD in it, never was...

  3. Friends: I know a lot of you (including me) took advantange of the sick Best Buy "sale" (read: misprice) on this set some time ago. Sadly, although I still have the bonus DVD that came with my set, my box has gone missing in one of my many moves over the last few years. So I beseech the forum: does anyone have this box who doesn't want it and would like to part with it for some cash at a reasonable price? Drop me a PM if so. I've got a line on a set online for around $70, which isn't too bad--but thought I'd see if someone here wanted to sell theirs.

    Cheers,

    Peter

    Yes, I'm game. PM sent.

  4. thats awesome valerie- did he have fun

thats awesome teasing the korean: yea never seen the 2nd issue: i must be on the lookout!

yes, Buddy definitely seemed to be enjoying himself. he conducted the band from his wheelchair in the audience close to the stage. he was mobbed with well-wishers, gifts, cards, flowers, balloons, big birthday cake, etc. so many of his family members were there: his "kids," grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Buddy's mind is still sharp as a tack and he can still talk his ass off as well! lots of very valuable information in his head and he loves to share it.

Wow, was it a public event? Sorry I missed it.

I did go to some of the World Stage Jazz Festival yesterday but left too early from that. But it didn't seem like it was part of that.

  5. Is the Stones disc the UK or the US line-up? (The UK cover is the same cover as the US December's Children (and Everyone's), whereas the US cover is a color shot of the band)

Well, it's a color shot of close ups of the heads of all 5 members of the band, on a angle. Let me try to find a link.

    This one:

    http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&a...10:w9foxqt5ldde

but without the line about remastering at the bottom.

  6. Hi,

CDs are treated well, in original packaging (unless I swapped out the jewel case for one in better condition somewhere along the line).

Light scuffing on jewel case is possible from being crammed on shelves, but CDs are always treated well.

Prices include U.S. domestic media mail shipping. Higher priority shipping or international available on request at cost. Can send photos of any if you have questions about the edition or condition. Open to discounts if you buy several. Really looking to sell not trade.

  7. It's the nutjobs that make California so great and wonderfully diverse! Who wants to live in some boring part of the country where folks don't want to travel back in time?

I do love these sorts of scenarios, and they form the basis for quite a few of the fantasy/sf books I read.

Most pertinently, many years ago I read a sf short story in which the lead character had an obsession/love affair with the past. When, through some mumbo jumbo technology/magick the nature of which I completely forget, he finally was granted his wish to actually travel into the past, he had no control over the process. So he ended up in some pre-historic era in which the human-like residents were knuckle-draggers without even fire. A long way from that dude's favourite historic eras. And when he finally got to travel back to what he thought would be his own time zone, he ended up in a joint so far into the future that there was nothing but endless corridors of cold, white, humming computers.

    Isn't this H.G. Wells's The Time Machine?

I remember one by Bradbury where a hunter and a guide go back to hunt a dinosaur. The hunter steps off the proscribed path ever so slightly, they return to the present, and everything is changed, because he stepped on a butterfly when he stepped off the path. An SF classic, the title of which escapes me at the moment. Could "thunder" be part of the title?

  8. Hi,

I'm about to auction some sets, but thought I should give you all a chance first. All are in very good to great shape, probably kept they way you keep them, played not very often, box, booklet, CDs & liner notes complete. Need the money. Although I might consider trading one for the Armstrong or Braxton Mosaics.

    US Media Mail shipping included

Charge extra (just for the cost) for better shipping methods or international shipping.

  9. Check with Rocco - maybe Cafe Metropole? He might be too busy putting together the Angel City Jazz Festival over Labor Day weekend, but I assume you would be coming after that, during the school year?

    Maybe the Smell in downtown?

The place I saw you last time, Safari Sam's, is out of business. And Jazz Bakery is currently out of business as well.

Hope you get a chance to play with Vinny Golia, Wadada Leo Smith, and Charlie Haden while you are at Cal Arts!

Do those guys all teach there?!?

    yep.

There's a venue in Long Beach that is good.

And I also just saw a show at a place called Bordello in downtown LA that seems liek it could be good for you. It's pretty close to Cafe Metropole.

I'll send you Rocco's email separately. But you can also probably reach him through
