  1. I would like an honest answer to why, at Friday night's Vision Festival, pianist Francois Tusques (ostensibly a guest of honor) was summarily shut out of the ensemble - poorly miked was only part of it. The other players weren't giving him the least amount of space and were ignoring his attempts to interact with what they were doing. As someone who has seen masters like Kidd Jordan, William Parker and Hamid Drake play empathetically, the rudeness I witnessed on the bandstand was shocking and...

  2. As of this morning, I can determine that Catherine Keener seems very sweet and is still eminently crush-worthy.

  3. Applying for an archives job way the hell out out Long Island. It is a cool job at least, and who doesn't like to ride trains?

  4. Has anyone had good or bad experiences with Lineage Farms CSA or other CSAs in Brooklyn? Do tell.

  5. Great music tonight from Joe Morris, Jim Hobbs, Chris Lightcap, Charles Downs (Rashid Bakr) and Ted Daniel/Michael Marcus (Duology). I couldn't get any good pictures but the sounds were beyond happening!

  6. Nothin' a little Hanunoo music can't fix.

  7. If you ever have the opportunity to check out Lydia Lunch w/ Retrovirus (Algis Kizys, Lesaew Retlaw, Bob Bert), stop at nothing and do it - absolutely incredible show last night. The great Wharton Tiers was running the sound. I can't guarantee you'll also be able to stand next to Debbie Harry during the gig, however.

  8. So I'm trying to parlay all those research skills into a job with the Freakonomics crew... me and probably 5,000 other (lovable) weirdos.

  9. Thanks to all who made it to Burton Greene's concerts this week! Your support of creative music in these times is vital!

  10. How fitting that Le Sony'r Ra, Josef Wagner and Arthur Russell all arrived on earth within three days of one another (albeit decades removed).

  11. Applyin', applyin', applyin'. Hopefully soon will come the hirin', hirin', hirin'.

  12. Working on oral histories of construction workers and electricians - tradesmen - rules.

  13. New Signal To Noise shipping - the end of an era for now... I miss print, even if it's increasingly less relevant.

  14. For those who are so inclined (and I'm one of those, generally): Saturday, April 20, 2013 Ted Daniel and IBMC Two shows: 9 & 10:30pm Sista's Place, 456 Nostrand @ Jefferson (BK) Ted Daniel is performing with the International Brass and Membrane Corps (IBMC). This group was conceived as a flexible and expandable creative music performance group, which utilizes instruments from the brass and membrane instrument families.

  15. What the hell is going on in Boston?! Fingers crossed that Boston friends and their loved ones are all right. My mind reels at trying to conceive of this tragedy/insanity.

  16. Gotta love it when you realize that one of your gigs didn't send you a tax form but another one sent you two (thus making me think I had everything). Aargh.

  17. Tired from installing a massive Dan Flavin artwork LIKE A BOSS.

  18. Positive vibes to Kalaparusha, who has been hospitalized. Apparently he's suffering from serious heart problems. I admit I was wondering the other day if he was all right because his usual spot on 14th St. (4/5/6 line) has been absent the sound of his tenor the past few weeks.

  19. Great girlfriend moments: "Speaking of communism, Cliffy, did you know that Cardew's Great Learning is being performed here?" This lady retains information about weird music. She actually brought up Cardew nearly unprovoked.

  20. To those whom I communicate with regularly on here: my facebook messaging is all fucked up and I'm tired of these infernal suggested posts/ads. For the time being, please send me email instead if there's a need for quick and reasoned response. ericleofdolphi [AT] gmail [duht] com - thanks.

  23. Alert world: I have a cold.

  24. Anyone know the name of the person who books Joe's Pub in NYC? I like to address things to "actual humans" rather than "Yo Sucka" or whatever else I'd normally use. DM me please.

  25. Transcribing notes from one of the Joe Morris concerts - the trio with William Parker and Gerald Cleaver - I wrote "but what does shredding even MEAN in this music?" Take that as you will.
