  1. Just one on-topic, off-topic note here ... until you have attempted to deal with the USPS in NYC, you have never dealt with the USPS. They are beyond reprehensible ... 1) Imagine being at the Post Office at 8:30 AM (to try to avoid the usual long lines), only to be told when attempting to make payment at the window, "You have to have to wait until I have the money ... we don't start with any change in the morning, we only get change as customers give us money. 2) Being asked to calculate the value of the stamps that are on a package. "No, we are not given calculators and I can't count them." 3) Having mail dropped off in your building by their relay system, but never put in the actual mail boxes, as that carrier never shows up to do so - 11 times now in four and one-half years." The mail just sits in our mail lobby ... anyone can help themselves ... a felony in-progress 4) Going three consecutive business days with no mail delivery to the entire building 5) Paying for, but never receiving return signature receipts ... lucky to only receive the "unsigned" receipt 6) Having Media Mail take almost one month to arrive from suburban Philadelphia to NYC 7) Sending a Priority Mail package six blocks ... only to have it take ten days to arrive. 8) Printing on-line postage, but having to wait in line for 50 minutes so the {ostal Clerk (who needs to only provide acceptance) tells me that I made up "on-line postage" and then that I don't have enough postage on the item (yes, on-line rates are slightly lower than published rates.) 9) NEVER, I repeat NEVER have the necessary standard postal forms/supplies readily available 10) Constantly having boxes (under 13 ounces) returned as overweight - more than 13 ounces - unable to mail from postal boxes due to homeland security reasons 11) ... and don't EVEN get me started on customs. Each Postal Clerk has their own idea of what you must do to send an item ... and seemingly will always try to tell you the "wrong" advise at least once. Funny thing is that I have lived all over the US and never experienced anything like this with the USPS - small frustrations, yes ... but this is widespread and consistent. Thanks for allowing this semi-arbitrary "SCREAM" ... Yeah, I guess he could have said he did not want to ship out of the US, but I have had very good dealings with Satish and found him to be a good and caring person ... I guess I am saying that I certainly do understand why he would not want to go through the hassle ... as noted, pretty hard to fathom, unless you have experienced it. Sorry to hijack the thread and discussion ...
  2. Thanks to all who responded - this one has been fun. I originally asked this, as I have always considered myself to be a music lover first. Yet, at one time, I had funds comparable to a small home investied in an audio system . I downgraded to a relatively modest system about six months ago and now seem to be enjoying music even more than ever!
  3. Saw Lionel Loueke and Richard Bona at the Allen Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center last Saturday evening - part of their new Duo Tones series. It was our first trip to JALC and to the rather amazing Allen Room. I must say that the space and the sound were both superb for this mostly quite initimate concert. I have heard both of these artists on multiple recordings (their own and with others.) I have enjoyed, especially Loueke's recordings ... albeit yet with Bona, better described as elements of his recordings, I was intrigued that this setting might actually bring out that which I had found interesting in each of their musics. We were rewarded with a beautiful hour of music. Combining elements of African, Jazz and even a tiny bit of Funk sneaking in there, the music was very creative, intelligent and even quite fun! The amazing part was that these tickets were via a discount theater club to which my wife belongs. Regular price was $67.50 each (ya gotta love NYC) and via the club they were $4.50 each! Now, that was a steal for an evening like this one. Their motivation worked though; eventhough we were members at JALC for the previous two years, as noted, this was the first time we had gone. I will not repeat that mistake and will go again soon in the future. As an FYI, the other two events in this Duo Tones series are: Roy Hargrove & Cedar Walton January 9 & 10, 2009 McCoy Tyner & Ravi Coltrane May 15 & 16, 2009 It is an especially amazing place to see and hear this sort of music.
  4. Truly one of the most amazing people I have ever had the pleasure to meet. My wife and I had the absolute pleasure of presenting Roswell twice in the late 90s at Frank Lloyd Wright's Unity Temple in Chicago. The first time in his "two-bone" trio w/ Steve Swell and Lou Grassi on percussion. Ros was amazing- two of the most incredible sets of music - he even played piano and sang on one number. Everyone sat transfixed (and having a blast) for nearly three hours. The even greater pleasure was getting to know him just a bit ... his stories included philosophy, ethnomusicology (is it true that he worked with Lomax, Allen?), art and more. Some funny stories came out of the experience too. We were able to bring him back to do a solo set and a duo set with Burton Greene. I was disappointled only that I could never work it out so that I could get Steve Lacy w/ Roswell together to record at Unity (Steve did a solo performance that was released as, "Solo: Live at Unity Temple" on Mac McCaughan's Wobbly Rail label.)
  5. I know this board is about the music ... but just curious as to the above. Thanks, Scott
  6. Blues, Boogie and Bop - The 1940s Mercury Sessions YUP, Felser even beat me to this back in 2006! After having to sell this in 2002, I finally stumbled upon a copy today. So nice to have this great music again! Listening to Albert Ammons on disc one right now
  7. Yup, me too Sold 4,000+ (full collection) Lps in 1987 Sold nearly 3000 cds while trying to recover from health issues during 2002-2003 ... and have spent quite a bit of time ever since trying to buy many of them back!
  8. I had not even considered the possibility of trades, but I have edited the listing to reflect that as an option - thanks!
  9. 08/26/08 All Discs have been SOLD - thank you! Scott
  10. Some lucky bastard picked up that set for $60... not bad... I wish I had jumped on it. Willisau went for $109.16!! Oh, and welcome to the board, Scott. There's been lots of interesting discussions about Braxton's music here, stick around and join in! Anthony Braxton, what do you think? Thanks Uncle Skid! Yes, I think the Lyons set and the Circle 1 Live were good deals. Considering Willisau had gone over $200 recently, I hope this is a sign of saner times. Much appreciated ... I have enjoyed the site for a couple years, but perhaps it is time to add a few notes now and then - I will try to do so.
  11. Does Bruce have a release date up yet on that one? I know I had heard they were re-releasing Willisau as far back as 2005. As you can tell, the "just have to have it" bug bit (at the usual lovely OOP e-bay premium!) Finally re-releasing it (and the rest of that amazing back catalogue) would save a number of us a great amount of pocket change! Scott
  12. Been a long-time lurker; have greatly enjoyed the dialog and learned quite a bit too - thank you. I know it is always rude to make a sales pitch as your first post, but I wanted to post a link to a few rarities I just listed on e-bay. Hopefully, the $9.99 starting price, with no reserve, will make it a bit easier to take ...
