  1. a big chunk of any genre is crap. you guys need to talk more specifics here, "eai" is a much wider-ranging area of music than these generalities are giving it credit for.
  2. I've got pretty complete Tudor and Dead C collections, thank you very much. Corpus Hermeticum was one of the more influential labels on what I do, not that an outsider could really tell that. anyway, you're typically more coherent than this, I'll chalk that up to the earliness of the hour. I'm not telling Allen what to listen to, and Feldman and Tudor are certainly great, but that doesn't make your last two posts here any less silly. and I don't know what you mean by "process music", although I'm sure once I do, I'll get a good chuckle out of your wrongheadedness. and namechecking ten different kinds of music in three sentences doesn't make your underlying point correct.
  3. apples and oranges (and even clementines maybe), you should know better than to generalize like this...

you guys might be interested in an item I just listed on eBay, the trio of Pino Minafra, Ernst Reijseger, and Han Bennink, a very early Leo CD release that took me forever to find. http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZerstrecsQQhtZ-1

there is no way that anyone paid FMP for those discs at those prices. a lot of times these cheap prices come up because an unethical distributor has simply not paid the label for the package they received and either sold the discs themselves or sold them in bulk cheaply to someone else who sells them to customers or stores. I have no idea of the specifics of this situation, but at least be aware of the likelihood of why this seller is offering such good prices.

just FYI, as I wrote on JC, this isn't actually out until December 11. ErstDist will have it for $18, DMG for $21 or $22. I have an advance of it, very curious to see how people react. great cover, hadn't seen that before, thanks for posting it, Jim!

the Out To Lunch ONJO CD is still on its way, I think third in the upcoming queue from doubtmusic, a track by track cover version of the Dolphy disc. besides Otomo's normal band, Axel Dorner, Mats Gustafsson and Cor Fuhler are all on the entire thing, I'm looking forward to it!

no rush, just curious. remind me: are the other two EL003/EL004 or 044/045?

you'd be amazed at what simply raising the volume a few db can do sometimes. how are those Ersts treating you, Nate? I haven't heard much from you about those, just curious...

why is having no contract worse for the musicians than it is for the label? maybe it is, but it seems to me as if it's a two way street. my musicians don't sign contracts, they get paid for the initial printing up front (so I don't have to keep people posted about royalties), and get paid another lump sum for any subsequent printings when those are made, if they are. you'd be amazed how few labels in this area pay the musicians anything, including Hat Art (at least in some cases).

the duo disc is pretty good, Axel actually gave me a different, unreleased one I liked more, which he knew would be more to my taste.

yeah, Fennesz could work also, although it's not as natural a fit. Tony Buck lives in the same building as Axel in Berlin, and the two have already made a duo record. from my perspective, the Necks desperately need to be knocked out of their eternal trio groove and forced to react to a new situation. their trio is simply too easy and predictable, which I understand is what many people like about it and why they've built up a relatively big fan base. they don't seem particularly interested in doing so, though, at least not with my help, so I've moved on.

my favorite Necks record is Aquatic. I tried recently to get them to do a quartet disc with Axel Dorner for Erstwhile, but it doesn't look like that will happen, at least for Erstwhile, possibly on their own label. I'm honestly not totally convinced by them as a trio, either live or on record, but I think this quartet could be superb.

I think it's close to the same personnel as the big band doubtmusic disc, I believe it's the next release on that label.

also, between the time I last posted and now, we just got the third title on doubtmusic, which is a solo Mats Gustafsson disc, on baritone sax, titled Catapult. same thing as the other doubtmusic titles, we've got them for $18 US (not listed yet, but Chris will have them within the hour, so you can order ASAP), DMG will list them on Friday for $22...

yeah, this is a good one. you should grab it soon if you want it, we're running low again. only us and DMG (who I'm selling them to) have it in the US, and ours are much cheaper (I believe $18 vs. $22).

not to rain on Jacques' parade, but we stock Potlatch CDs for $13 (not including shipping). we have a fair amount of the catalog in stock (not the new one yet, Trio Sowari, Beins/Denzler/Durrant).
  20. a few off the top of my head: Dewey Redman-Ear of the Behearer Stilluppsteypa/TV Powe-We Are Everyone In The Room (a live record) Abrasion Ensemble-Music for the Same 500 People
  21. yeah, still a silly post, sorry. I bought Glasgow Sunday today, haven't heard it yet.

have you heard Howard's The Black Ark from the early seventies? barely reissued on CD (Japanese Tokuma), this is not only the best Howard I've heard, but the only Arthur Doyle I've ever liked. a real classic from this area of music.
  23. arthur russell is great, and not even close to a "jandek clone", I really question the listening ability of anyone who that would even occur to.

You can hear this on Wing's Silly Love Songs. actually, wise ass, there's supposedly material on McCartney's box set that reflects this influence.
  25. thanks, Tony, I'll fix that. I've got plenty of stuff that's not OOP, but that seems less worth taking the trouble to post on eBay. no Kiss or Abba, though, although I dug Kiss Alive II when I was a young 'un. John, the festival might be in Brooklyn, we don't have a venue yet, but wherever it is, it won't be too hard to get to and from.
