  16. The Hugh Tracey set looks like a great introduction to the roots of African popular music.

Billie: Lady Sings the Blues Listening to this, I was thinking of Billie's became more profound and more subtle as the years passed - and also how, when she was younger, she was accompanied by the cream of jazz musicians. Here, she's accompanied (on the first half of the CD) by Charlie Shavers and Tony Scott. Someone should have been ashamed about this situation. I hope that they weren't Billie's choices.
