  1. I had an "interesting" experience when I spoke with him after hearing him play a duo concert with Roswell Rudd about 20 years ago. I'll just say that he seemed to be somewhat lacking in social skills.
  2. I can imagine that the whole process is both stressful and exciting - probably more exciting once you reach your destination.
  3. Chet Baker Quartet: No Problem Gorgeous playing by Chet Baker and fine piano and compositions by Duke Jordan. Had a great time listening to this one earlier today.
  4. Ellington Orchestra: Concert in the Virgin Islands
  5. Cecil: Jazz Advance
  6. Booker Little 4 and Max Roach Probably the worst recorded music I've ever heard from Nola's. They got Booker's trumpet right, but everyone else is somewhere in the distance.
  7. Memphis Slim U.S.A. (United/Delmark)
  8. Monk Plays Ellington It's a shame that most of the pianists who recorded Monk tributes didn't use at least some of the inventiveness and imagination that Monk did in his Ellington tribute.
  9. Hope You have a Happy Birthday!
  10. Cecil Taylor Ensemble: Always a Pleasure (FMP)
  11. Skip James: She Lyin' (Genes)
  12. Booker Little & Booker Ervin: Sounds of Inner City Reissue of most of a Teddy Charles date. Not a necessity, except - it contains some very fine Booker Little, and there's not a lot of that around.
  13. Found this: https://musicalassumptions.blogspot.com/2012/09/charles-mills.html and this: https://composers.com/charles-mills
  14. Little Willie Littlefield and Friends: Going Back to Kay Cee
  15. Al Green: Have a Good Time & The Belle Album
  16. Listened to some blues/r&b 45s this afternoon: Ike Turner's Kings of Rhythm (w. Tommy Hodge on vocals: Down & Out/(I Know) You Don't Love Me Frankie Lee Sims: My Talk Didn't Do Any Good Smokey Smothers: I Can't Judge Nobody Smokey Smothers: Honey, I Ain't Teasin' Fention (sic) Robinson: You've Got To Pass This Way Again Cousin Leroy: I'm lonesome Tender Slim: I'm Checkin' Up (Jimmy Spruill on Guitar) Piano Red: Jump Man Jump
  17. Clunky makes some good points, especially that it should be listened to in small doses. I've kept it because, given that restraint, there's a lot of very good music there, and because it features some musicians that I don't have elsewhere in my collection.
  18. Mal Waldron: Blues for Lady Day I wish they hadn't added the two live cuts on the CD. The LP version was perfectly done and shouldn't have been added to. More is not always better.
