  1. Reminds me of Don Meredith's comment about Frank Gifford when they were broadcasting - something to the effect that Gifford was the kind of guy who looked good in cheap clothes.
  2. The Friends of Charlie Patton (Yazoo) Yazoo knew how to get the best sound out of old 78 blues records when transferring them to LP or CD. I could hear the snap of Willie Brown's guitar strings when I listened to this today.
  3. Thanks for posting that. At times, I had wondered what became of Dewey Johnson.
  4. I have the French LPs on Atmosphere - great stuff
  5. - I like this performance very much, though it's the only one I've heard.
  6. Classic W.W. & Griff. There are some records that Wilbur Ware plays on where I find myself locked in on what he's playing, even when he's not soloing.
  7. Quartet + 1: And Now I Can See Crows Mating in the Mist (Cadence Jazz)
  8. The Mellow Side of Clifford Jordan (Mapleshade)
  9. Yeah! Thanks for that one.
  10. I recall someone (can't recall who) writing that Jimmy Yancey could make the piano cry. "At the Window" is proof of that.
  11. Probably my favorite later Basie big band record.
  12. A teaser for the live albums that followed years later. An obvious
  13. Johnny Dunn: Cornet Blues (Frog)
  14. Howling Wolf Rides Again
  15. The Incredible String Band: Wee Tam and the Big Huge (Fledg'ling)
  16. Your words speak more eloquently than mine.
  17. Bud: "It Never Entered My Mind" - some of the most deeply felt music I've ever heard
