  1. DOES look like a cool Tele.
  2. 29 years ago I had that same situation! I really have liked the Geller piano that I've heard. . . . I haven't "analyzed" it and it's been a while since I have heard any of the recordings and don't have real "distinct" memories of the work. But I liked the swing and sound. Most of what I have is her with Herb, though I think I have the "Memorial" cd as well. . . .
  3. If you call them or email them, they'll send you replacement cases.
  4. What I'd really like is to be able to systematically buy the remaining Duke Ellington Treasury Shows on cd, preferably from Storyville. Also looking forward to buying the Lester Young Mosaic that is due next month.
  5. Thanks for the heads up!
  6. Go for the Ellington Mosaic. The odds of getting a disc that you need to complete this are. . .astronomical would be my guess. The Mosaic is fantastic. It will be around quite some time, take your time and save.
  7. Far more visits to mine than I thought!
  8. Yay! Many many more!
  9. Welcome! I have both the Japanese and the domestic RVGs. . . the US RVG sounds GREAT! I didn't know anything could sound better than the JRVG version. I'II have to get the USRVG while it's still cheap and avaliable. A good excuse to listen to this great session again. Well, the US version sounds a little different than the Japanese, I like them both, the US has the extra track. Claude, I hear the RVGs differently in my system than you (in that I hear distinct differences between newer ones and previous editions) and I would say yes, this one is one of the better RVG remasterings.
  10. Welcome! I have both the Japanese and the domestic RVGs. . . the US RVG sounds GREAT!
  11. PM'd about the two Coltrane minilps.
  12. Somebody should get the Duke and Ella!
  13. Yes, she's a good friend and company. The biggest drawbacks are: she wants me up earlier and earlier, and she wants to spend HOURS sleeping in my lap and I just can't sit still nearly as long as she wants me to, so we both get annoyed. But very shortly after Helen moved to Austin we brought Marge home from the Pound when she was about eight weeks old, the tortoiseshell runt of a litter. She and Helen were bonded so tight there was little separating them. It seems that everyone is grumpy today due to the time change. The thing I hate about it is. . . it's now dark again for my commute.
  14. Many more happy sliding returns!
  15. Right. That's what I paid.
  16. More like this B! I went with the ebony one because the cherry sunburst. . . is gaudier than the Gibsons. I had a friend throughout the seventies that had an old cherry sunburst Gibson. . . beautiful sounding guitar. . . I had a Martin D18 at the same time and wished I had his instead!
  17. I paid a grand. Bass, gig bag, stand. I've got the room. . . three bedroom house to myself now. Still don't know where to set up my old Sonor drum kit though, hasn't been set up in eleven years!
  18. Well, I paid off the house this month and to celebrate I bought something I always wanted: a Hummingbird. I didn't buy a Gibson, I didn't want to spend over two grand. . . I bought an Epiphone. Not the same thing I know, but nice. . . I got the ebony finish one. Then a friend who just had his first child (at age 50!) asked me a great question: Did I want to buy his full size bass violin? Guess what my answer was? Got it today, it's set up with steel strings and a pickup, at least for now. So now I have this to add to my stringed collection (Hummingbird, Ovation "Breadwinner" solid body guitar, and "Wishbass" fretless bass built by Steve Wishnevsky.)
  19. I have a four legged feline alarm clock (almost eighteen years old!) that tries to wake me at 4:00 a.m. Springing forward helps. . . She thought it was 4 when it was 5 this morning. I generally get up at 5:00 or 5:15 a.m. every day, week day or weekend day. And try to be in bed by 9:00 to 9:30 p.m. It has been harder to sleep continuously the last 18 months or so, I'm sometimes up in the middle of the night for an hour. . . .
  20. Yes, there are five discs in four volumes that have these and also a few non Davis Hodges albums. http://www.freshsoundrecords.com/catalogue...mp;label_id=118
  21. I have to agree with MG on both counts, and will add Jimmy Woode. You may or may not have problems with the vocals on this set, but even if you do. . . I think there's plenty to enjoy PLENTY!
  22. I'm one of the sickoes. Favorites of mine include the Akiyoshi, Sutton, Hicks and McKenna
  23. I'll echo what John says. Thanks Jim. I came along a few days later it seems, but then just dropped anchor.
  24. Isn't it amazing the way that some sounds from some masters can come across decades and hit you right between the ears! Bix. . .a killer diller.
