Complete Candide Recordings

I'm a huge Mingus fan and I know I have much, if not all of this music (ie, the Original Fables of Faubus described in the add is on Charles Mingus Presents Charles Mingus).

Does anyone know how the sound compares, and if there is any material here not otherwise available?

I really like the sound on this set, but the sound on the single Candid discs is comparable. There are two differences I am aware of: the Mosaic set does NOT include at least (maybe only one) track/take that IS available on one Candid cd; the "Mingus Presents Mingus" session appears in good sounding mono on the Mosaic and in less good sounding extreme stereo on the individual cd.

There is a thread about these recordings around these here parts somewhere. . . .

Mingus Reads Voltaire?

I never had the original Candid pressing (of that Mingus LP with "Fables of Faubus"). But I did have the '70s Barnaby reissue, which had a significant case of "groove echo" or perhaps it was "tape print-through". The first domestic CD reissue had the same problem, plus a heavy dose of noise reduction which really made it hard to listen to.

The Mosaic version arrived without those problems, plus all that additional music! I have not heard the more recent reissues

I no longer have the older Candid versions to do a comparison, but a couple of years back some were rereleased in Japan. Those released were Mingus, Mingus presents Mingus together with the various artists albums Jazz Life and Newport Rebels. To my cloth ears they were a significant improvement on previous issues I had heard.
