brownie Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 Wolff, many thanks for providing this link. Very interesting interview. I note that this was taped in 1958 and Trane mentions Wayne Shorter who had yet to make his first record appearance. I also notice that the Slought Foundation lists an upcoming 'Sun Ra Meets Napoleon' program. That should be interesting too! Quote

brownie Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 Forgot about the earlier posting of the Coltrane interview. Was not equipped for audio plug-in at that time. and could not listen to it then. This has been redressed in the meantime Quote
ghost of miles Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 "...and then Monk comes back in to save everybody and no one knows where he is." of course it was mentioned before on this very forum Yes, great line! I used it in a promo spot I did for a two-part, six-hour Coltrane special I did a couple of years ago... matter of fact, the community radio station manager and I are getting ready to re-do that program and run it again July 23 and 30. The program includes excerpts from the 1958 interview and Kofsky's 1966 interview as well, along with commentary from Carl Woideck (Coltrane biographer) and David Baker. I'll post a link when it airs. Quote
