Templejazz Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 Roots - Stablemates ( A group w/ Don Pullen, Sam Rivers, Chico Freeman and a few others. Can't remember the label) Miles Davis - Double Image (Live recording from Paris w/ Wayne, Jack DeJohnette and Chick Corea I think. Moon Records) Lonnie Smith - Mama Wailer (Looked like an import) Thanks! Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 Double Image is typical grey-market Lost Quintet, two long but still incomplete edits of train of (un)consciousness medleys, OK sound, fascinating if sometimes frustrating performances...similar yet different from other such. Quote
MartyJazz Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 I have the ROOTS cd. Like it very much. Very accessible Sam and everyone plays well. Quote
JohnS Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 (edited) Give "ROOTS" a try. I have it too, an enjoyable date. Edited July 27, 2004 by JohnS Quote
Peter Johnson Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 Hey Bill! Welcome back! It's been a while since we've seen you around...hope your schedule will allow you some time to check in while you're in the midst of teaching those little buggers where middle C is! Quote
JSngry Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 Roots - Stablemates = good, solid date Miles Davis - Double Image = simply incredible music. Sound could be better, but not the music, no way. Lonnie Smith - Mama Wailer = typical early Kudu labe stuff, hughly produced, highly funky, a well-drafted niche-product. Marvin Cabell pops up/in. All three are good things to have/hear, but imo, DOUBLE IMAGE is the only one to get at any cost. If you've not heard the Lost Quintet in action, it's time to get busy. NOW! Quote
Guy Berger Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 Miles Davis - Double Image (Live recording from Paris w/ Wayne, Jack DeJohnette and Chick Corea I think. Moon Records) Definitely worth picking up. I'm not sure whether it includes the full Rome concert (assuming that we are talking about this concert), but this is top-drawer music by one of Miles's best working units. Guy Quote
