Brad
When I saw the Manchurian Candidate this weekend (which BTW is very good, almost as good as the original), they had a trailer for this new film by Taylor Hackford. It looks good but I hope it doesn't turn out like Bird, focusing on the bad things in his life. Anybody heard anything about this upcoming flick? Big Wheel
What WERE the bad things in his life? I know next to nothing about the guy's personal life, but for some reason I always assumed he was a very clean-living man.
Spontooneous
Look up the chapter on Ray in Joe Goldberg's "Jazz Masters of the Fifties." Highly recommended. I'll give you a hint, from Ray's obituary on CNN.com: "Charles had his struggles. In 1964 he was arrested on drug charges and checked into a rehab center in California. He admitted he had struggled with a heroin addiction for 20 years. "He later became reluctant to talk about the drug use, notes The Associated Press, fearing it would taint how people thought of his work." Spontooneous
Marcus Belgrave, David Newman and Hank Crawford will be represented by a composite character named Quincy.

RDK
Word is that Jamie Foxx is *excellent* as Brother Ray...
medjuck
I saw that trailer with Bourne Supremacy. It followed the trailer for Collateral (also with Foxx). As soon as they started playing What'd I Say? my daughter turned to me and said "You're going to see that, aren't you." To which I replied "You bet!" The Mule
Word on the street in Hollywood is that the movie is great and Foxx will get an Oscar nomination. There's always a chance that's just a lot of industry hype, but the trailer looked pretty damn good to me....
wolff
I hope it's good, but I've seen many trailers that were better than the movie. Jack-on What ever happened to the Chet Baker movie? Jack-off
Brandon Burke
I think Jamie Foxx will surprise some folks in the next year or two with his ability to play dramtic roles.
paul secor
There was a bit in a NY Times article on Ruth Brown a couple of weeks ago. Ray had asked Ms Brown what actress she wanted to portray her, and she said, "Halle Berry". Ray's response was "Baby, I'm not THAT blind." Brad
I saw that trailer with Bourne Supremacy. It followed the trailer for Collateral (also with Foxx). As soon as they started playing What'd I Say? my daughter turned to me and said "You're going to see that, aren't you." To which I replied "You bet!" That's exactly what my said. BTW, that Collateral movie looks good too. I want to see that this weekend. I know you can't get everything from a trailer but he does look like he could be a very good actor. Big Wheel
I wasn't a particularly big Foxx fan, but I saw him on a rerun ESPN's Espy awards the other day and he converted me. Even if someone else was writing the jokes for him, he was still killing.
