Jim Alfredson Posted September 5, 2004 Report Posted September 5, 2004 Instrumental music doesn't sell anymore? Tell that to Kenny G! Quote
robviti Posted September 5, 2004 Report Posted September 5, 2004 i like the way he plays, and i like the way he rants. Quote
Alon Marcus Posted September 5, 2004 Report Posted September 5, 2004 jazzshrink Posted on Sep 5 2004, 12:08 PM i like the way he plays, and i like the way he rants. Who, Kenny ? Quote
Joe M Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 Well, it looks like bassist John Clayton has been hired to fill this job as I understand it. John is a great guy, and while I can understand people being upset about the way they treated Bud Shank, you couldn't ask for a better person to run such an project. Quote
Guest ariceffron Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 fuk that--- bud shank is such a greater musical force than fucking john clayton. fuck the clayton/hamilton big band. i dont give a fuck about that. that isnt real la jazz despite their massive popularity there. bud shank is. And Kenny G plays the soundtrack....... Quote
brownie Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 Aric's spelling is wrong! But he is absolutely right! They should not have removed a great active musician like Bud Shank. Quote
John Tapscott Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 John Clayton is a good bassist and fine arranger. He will probably do a good job, though there will be many pieces to pick up in the wake of Shank's firing. He has a lot of courage for even taking the job. What I fail to understand is how the Festival's Board of Directors can think that Clayton will broaden the musical scope of the festival, since he's every bit as mainstream as Shank. Quote
casanovas347 Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 And they want a younger guy. How about Norah Jones to teach jazz singing? Yeah! Right! i couldn't resist! OK, two sides......Jazz or Country? You may remember.... I don't know Snorah that much.....but its unfair to make those jockes! Its not pure jazz and i wish Blue Note would sign more great jazz newcomers like Organissimo for example, its a Jazz Label...and don't ask me why they signed Van Morrison? Are they nuts?.....there are many great jazz artist out there who deserved beeing reconized! I understand the angry statements against the multi-grammy seller....but i guess she don't want all this popstar-bullshit (woohoo, great to use those bad words in an american-forum, thanks guys ) that cames over her in the last two years...and if they would ask her for a teaching-job, i guess she would say "no"..... greeetz Paco Quote
