Bright Moments Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 i've been stumbling upon a bevy of beys lately. Andy Bey- singer, Skip Bey - bass and Chief Bey - hand drums. are they related? with the "Bey sisters" this sounds like one huge musical family! B-) Quote
Bright Moments Posted September 26, 2004 Author Report Posted September 26, 2004 yes jim since we can't have a "babe" thread. i thought why not a "bey" thread. Quote
mikeweil Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 Well, the family was Andy and the Bey Sisters - Geraldine and Salome, that is. You can hear them together on their two early Prestige LPs collected on the CD pictured below. Don't know about the bassist, but Chief Bey was a percussionist born in the US, although he told he was born in Dakar, Senegal, and well versed in African drums - he was a member of Olatunji's first troupe. He did not too long ago, IIRC. Do a search. I don't think he was related to the singer. Quote
Michael Fitzgerald Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 Ah, but there's more: Geraldine Bey married bassist Eddie de Haas and their children are both musicians: Darius and Aisha. http://www.dariusdehaas.com/biopagepersonal.htm Then there's the cousins, including Ronnell Bey, who I heard sing in Newark maybe 12 years ago. Shawn Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 Ardeth Bey - Boris Karloff's character's name in The Mummy Quote
BERIGAN Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 There is only one Bey, Turhan Bey! Quote
SEK Posted September 27, 2004 Report Posted September 27, 2004 There's also the Detroit saxophonist/composer/poet, Faruq Z. Bey (not related to the other Bey musicians). Quote
