JSngry Posted October 17, 2004 Report Posted October 17, 2004 What's the deal? Doesn't seem like this practice came along until the late 60 or so. MAybe even early 70s. Was it to keep records from falling out, or what? Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted October 17, 2004 Report Posted October 17, 2004 Easier to insert into jacket. Quote
Michael Fitzgerald Posted October 17, 2004 Report Posted October 17, 2004 All right, next question: what about Traffic's "Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys" and "Shootout At The Fantasy Factory" - what's the deal there? http://www.connollyco.com/discography/traffic/lowspark.html http://eil.com/shop/moreinfo.asp?catalogid=258880 Mike Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted October 17, 2004 Report Posted October 17, 2004 Just an "art director" warming up for Verve. Quote
Michael Fitzgerald Posted October 17, 2004 Report Posted October 17, 2004 I thought it might be a ploy to avoid having the LP deleted from the catalog. Snip, Snip, Snip...."Hey...." Mike Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted October 17, 2004 Report Posted October 17, 2004 Around this time those sleeves with the rounded corners were introduced. The rational for these was to let dirt, dust, etc fall out of the sleeve. They also aided insertion. Quote
Clunky Posted October 17, 2004 Report Posted October 17, 2004 Around this time those sleeves with the rounded corners were introduced. Michael Fitzgerald Posted October 17, 2004 Report Posted October 17, 2004 I think Chuck was talking about paper sleeves with rounded corners, not the abomination that is basically a clear plastic bag (rounded on one side, straight and too long on the other). Mike Quote
JSngry Posted October 17, 2004 Author Report Posted October 17, 2004 So the whole thing was an aid to insertion, nothing more? I had NO idea. Thanks. Quote
spinlps Posted October 18, 2004 Report Posted October 18, 2004 ...not the abomination that is basically a clear plastic bag (rounded on one side, straight and too long on the other). Mike Ugh... who thought THAT was a good idea? I detest those bag sleeves. My biggest pet peeve with the Japanese Blue Notes (I guess most Jap. reissues really) is those stinkin' plastic / rice paper bag sleeves. The LP, sleeve, inserts, obi, etc... are all expertly done, only to be done in by those bags! Quote
