Tony Pusey
Just noticed that the very admirable label Evangeline has released the Joy of Cooking album Closer to the Ground. They released the first album some while back-hopefully Castles is not too far behind. Anybody as excited about this as me?
Chuck Nessa
Interesting. Fritz Kasten (drummer and occasional alto player) was a close friend in college and was in our wedding. I heard the band a couple of times and still have the first two lps.
kenny weir
For me, one of the great not-yet-on-CD (as far as I'm aware) albums is the post-JoC item called The Joy by Toni Brown and Terry Garthwaite. (From 1977 on Fantasy). What a ripper! Back in the day, I had at least one solo album by both women but strangely never got into JoC itself. I got that record shortly after it came out and saw them live at the Hollywood Bowl. I haven't heard "Closer To The Ground" in many years, and don't know if I'll still dig it, but now's a good time for nostalgia, I suppose... paul secor
I bought two of their albums when they came out and liked them at first, but as "the 60's" wore off/out for me, I got rid of them. It might be interesting to hear how they'd sound now, but I'm not spending any bucks to find out.
Tony Pusey
Today Closer to the Ground arrived together with The Charlatans only official release. Evangeline is a great place to find all things San Fran both native and adopted-Sons of Champlin,Sir Douglas Quintet,Louie and the Lovers and tons more.
