many months ago I lived in DC. One of the great pleasures of living there was "Twins Jazz" - our local Jazz Club/Ethiopian restaurant.

This is a short video I took of the great Fathead Newman's gig at Twins. 71 years young and still going strong.

This weekend I somehow remembered the tape I took (with Fathead's permission, of course) and even managed to locate it and upload it for you enjoyment.

the rhythm section consist of Allyn Johnson(p); Steve Novosel(b); Harold Mann(d)

Hey, Thanks for that video WL!!! Just happened to see Fathead LAST NIGHT here in Austin, Texas playing "A Night In Tunisia" as the closer. He burned...that clip really brought it back. Wonderful rhythm section here in Austin last night w/ Dino Newman (his son) on drums, Chris Marasch(?sp) on bass and the wonderful Dr. James Polk (ex-Ray Charles pianist/organist) on piano.

Thanks again.

Nice of Fathead to allow you to film, Barak! Did he make you promise that it was purely for private purposes?

And thanks for posting it! Very cool to see ... and the drummer is a trip!

Actually, no. fathead initially thought it was a MD and asked whether I'll be able to send him a CDR of the show. I think he was a bit disappointed that all I had was a camcorder.

BTW, I asked Fathead about his son, Cadino. He said he's doing nothing with himself, eventhough he is a fine singer. That's why Fathead gave him the cameo performance in Cillin' (HighNote), hoping it'll give him the push to make something out of himself. But apparently it didn't do the trick...
