JSngry Posted November 18, 2004 Report Posted November 18, 2004 All I know of on the label of is a Max side and 1-2 Billy Harper sides. All I've heard is the Max in Amsterdam thing, and wow.... If nobody has a definitve listing, whatever information y'all have would be appreciated, as would general information about the label, including current ownership/plans for CD reissue, etc. Google ("Baystate" "Discography") leads to a lot of particulars, but I don't have the time to piece them all together. If anybody does have the time, it would be way cool. Looks like the label put out records by artists who have many fans in these parts. Maybe we can piece together a rough label discography here? As always, thanks in advance, and sorry for being such a tired ass. Quote
JohnS Posted November 18, 2004 Report Posted November 18, 2004 (edited) Probably not a lot of use but the obi on the Roach Amsterdam (6029) disc lists M'Boom Re; Percussion RVJ 6001 Max Roach/Dollar Brand; Stream Of Consciousness, RVJ 6016 Max Roach; Solo; RVJ 6021. Billy Harper's is Believer 6083 Plenty of gaps to fill in. Edited November 18, 2004 by JohnS Quote
Michael Fitzgerald Posted November 18, 2004 Report Posted November 18, 2004 I guess some of their stuff was original and some licensed (Timeless, for example). I have about 70 items in two series (6000, 8000) that I'll post later. Mike Quote

Jim R Posted November 19, 2004 Report Posted November 19, 2004 The only Baystate titles I have are a few Kenny Drews from the 80's, but I've seen some others listed in the "Jazz Heroes Data Bank" over the years, and I've been thinking about the label myself after seeing several titles at Musty Groove recently (Duke Jordan; Tommy Flanagan; Red Garland; Cedar Walton; Kenny Barron, etc). $22.99 a pop, though... However, the CD lists recording location as Soundwave Studios, New York. I've got the Strata-East/Bellaphon CD. Has it been issued in any other form(s) besides these two? Quote
kdd Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 I have the LP on Strata-East/Audio Fidelity. Could it be possible that it's live versions of the same material? I think not but one never knows... Quote
Bill Fenohr Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 That Ernie Wilkins Almost Big Band Live! is a very nice date. Great rhythm section of Kenny Drew,Mads Vinding and Ed Thigpen with nice solo efforts by Tim Hagans, Sahib Shihab, Richard Boone and,oh hell everyone plays good on this one. I dont know if its on cd, i have it on vinyl, but it is well worth running down. Quote
