Hardbopjazz Posted November 20, 2004 Report Posted November 20, 2004 (edited) A co worker asked me to make him a CD of jazz music. He never listened to jazz much, and wanted me to try to get him hooked. So far these are what I selected. 1) Moanin' Art Blakey 2) Sidewinder Lee Morgan 3) Song for my Father Horace Silver 4) Bye Bye Blackbird Miles and Coltrane What else should I include? Dan Gould Posted November 20, 2004 Report Posted November 20, 2004 I think you've got enough of the hard bop Blue Note era. I'd give him a taste of swing era stuff, Ben Webster or Hawkins or Young. A vocalist would be a good idea, too, like some Joe Williams, or maybe Joe and Basie to give a taste of big band jazz too. Quote

Dan, I was going to include "Goin' to Chicago", Count Basie with Joe Williams and Lambert Hendricks and Ross. There's some great vocals on that album. Edited November 20, 2004 by Hardbopjazz Quote
