pryan Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 I'm a big rum fan - with coke or gingerale, depending on my mood. I enjoy it without a lime, as I feel the lime detracts from the rum flavour. I enjoy white rum, but prefer amber. Bacardi is a favorite brand, but I also like others: Saba Island (locally bottled), Bundaberg (from Australia), and Captain Morgan spiced rum. If you enjoy rum as much as I, or only occasionally enjoy a "cuba libre", please discuss your preferences here. Cheers! :rsmile: Quote
Guest akanalog Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 i only like to drink rum straight. i recommend el dorado, which is from, i believe, guyana. i also like monte cristo a lot, which is from guatemala. both of these are great sipping rums in my opinion. Quote
pryan Posted November 23, 2004 Author Report Posted November 23, 2004 Have you tried Havana Club? My dad and I split a bottle of 7 yr old dark rum about a year and a half ago. That could be considered sipping rum too; it was nice. Quote
JSngry Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 Used to drink double 151s on breaks. But only Bacardi, no Ron Rico. THAT stuff will kill you! Nowadays, Bacardi Anejo is good. Quote
neveronfriday Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 Cacique (Venezuela): Pampero (Venezuela): I love these two, although they are very pricey in Europe. Both have absolutely wonderful taste and are so round and smooth that ... ... I think I'll have myself a Pampero right now. Cheers, and thanks for this thread! Quote
Guest akanalog Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 yeah it's 11am and this thread is inspiring me to pour some rum into my coffee. Quote
pryan Posted November 23, 2004 Author Report Posted November 23, 2004 Jim - I tried the Anejo when I was in Mexico; brought a bottle back for my old man. That 151 stuff is pretty potent - I've tried the Bacardi (it doesn't taste as powerful as some might think). You must get a nice buzz going if you drink doubles of that stuff! akanolog - Might as well get a head start on the rest of us. Quote
pryan Posted November 23, 2004 Author Report Posted November 23, 2004 BTW, has anyone tried those flavored rums? I've tried Bacardi Limon, and it's not bad w/ OJ. I think Bacardi also has an orange, rasberry, and vanilla flavored rums. Quote
wolff Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 I pretty much stick to Cuban HC7. Quote
Adam Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 Havana Club 7 year as well. Introduced to it at the jazz festival in Havana in 2000, and try to get it when I'm in foreign lands. Just brought one bottle back from London; got one from Peru two years ago. Quote
neveronfriday Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 ....just can't pace myself well with hard booze. Just a matter of practice. Cheers! P.S.: Mount GAY? Eminem's fave brand, I presume. Quote
Bright Moments Posted November 24, 2004 Report Posted November 24, 2004 B-) That is my favorite! Rhum Barbancourt you obviously have excellent taste! Quote
Guest akanalog Posted November 24, 2004 Report Posted November 24, 2004 oh yeah. that stuff is good. the haitian rum. one time i made the mistake of buying the real expensive one, but the bottle in this picture is just as fine and a lot cheaper (though still not cheap, obviously). good stuff. Quote
pryan Posted November 26, 2004 Author Report Posted November 26, 2004 A friend of my Dad's enjoys Lemon Hart rum, slightly darker, with a rummier flavour. It's nice, but I only like it on occasion. Received a 40 oz. bottle of Bacardi Amber from a friend of mine this week. Might dip into this weekend. Mmmm, rum. Quote
wolff Posted November 27, 2004 Report Posted November 27, 2004 Here are a couple other good ones: Pyrat XO Pyrat Cask 23 HC Reserva Almost bought a bottle of Brithish Navy Pusser's Rum, as it was recommended to me. Passed on it and got Glen Garioch Highland 10 year old single malt scotch instead. Yummmmmmmmmy, baby!! Quote
pryan Posted December 22, 2004 Author Report Posted December 22, 2004 Bought a bottle of English Harbour rum (from Antigua). It's very smooth, aged five years. Worth the extra dough, IMO. Quote
