Hello All-

I sold a box set on Ebay and the winning bidder is from Italy. No problem for me. This is the first thing the buyer has bought outside of Italy. I sent him a receipt from paypal with a total in USD and requested that he pay me with paypal.

He sent an email back asking this:

____________

1) I need a serial number of your paypal for the transfer of money?

2) I have a postpay, it's all right?

____________

I don't know what the above questions mean.....

I'm working with him the best I can but I think we're at a standstill. I want to send the set to him and will work as long as I need to to complete this transaction.

Can someone (preferrably from Italy) suggest a course of action for the buyer to pay me? I'm somewhat ignorant of payment choices from countries other than the US and I'd like to learn.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

It seems that the buyer doesn't understand what Paypal is and thinks it is a kind of bank transfer. Of course he should have checked this before bidding.

The easiest thing to do for him would be to open a Paypal account, if he has a credit card.

If Paypal is not possible, the cheapest method for sending a payment from Europe to the US is a postal money order, which costs around $10 and takes two weeks to arrive.

If he can get postal money orders in Italy, that is. As far as I know you can't get them here in the Netherlands.

I believe if he tries to pay you and then opens a PayPal account, you'll get a $5 credit for having steered him to PayPal.

Isn't that for opening U.S. accounts only?

Could be.

But you never asked those people to send you the $5 credit they received when opening their account ... :D

Sorry guys, I was out of town so I miss this thread.

My experience as italian is: it's easy to get a paypal account, but you have a sending limit, (at least I have one, 2000 $, and it's not a monthly limit, it lasts forever!), because of VISA restriction, so you must have TWO different Credit Card, like Visa and Amex, to exceed this limit.

It's not possible to send send a IMO from Italy to US because the postal services of Italy and US don't have an agreement about that, it's crazy, but it's true!!.

You can send money via Western Union or Moneygram, but it's expensive, or via Bidpay, a little bit cheaper. My suggestion is that your customer open a paypal account with a credit card otherwise he could pay you via Bidpay with a credit card. Anyway if you have a "real big problem" with your customer, send me his mail, I will try my best to help you.

Thank you everyone for your comments!

I wanted to give the buyer an answer, with the perspective of understanding what he has to deal with.

I will send him an email requesting him to open a paypal account, then he can pay me.

I sent him an invoice from paypal and I copied myself- and it arrived in Italian.

Again- thank you so much for your help! I'll update this thread as I find out info.

Be safe-

Mike

ok....

after sending him instructions on using paypal and sending another invoice- he's still confused......

so.....porcy62: can you help me with this?? I was wondering if you can share your perspectives with this guy of using paypal.

I want to sell the set to him and will give him every opportunity to purchase it.

I will PM you with his name and address- I'll do it tomorrow- since it's late for me.

I hope you can do this-

Thanks for considering and your generous offer!!

Regards- Mike
