Jazz in Reno

Looks like I'm gonna be in Reno during the first week in February for a conference. Never been before, so I was wondering if anyone here can recommend any jazz shopping opportunities there for me. Or if there are any events going on that might be of interest, I'd like to hear about that too...

Of course, might have to try my luck at the Blackjack tables and the one-armed bandits as well B-)

Are you in Reno? We moved there this last summer, but now we've moved to Roseville. I wish I would have known, we could have hooked up.

BeBop is right. There isn't much in Reno. I was told there was some jazz being played downtown somewhere off of 4th street, but I didn't get a chance to find out.

Other than the aforementioned Recycled Records and Barnes and Noble, there's a Tower Records and a Borders.

If I were you I'd stick with blackjack.

I remember a place there called (IIRC) the Truckee River Bar and Grill- they used to have live jazz. That was a while back, though and it most likely has changed. I don't think there's much of a scene there.

I found this ad in a 1934 issue of the "Nevada State Journal" of Reno. I don't know what ever happened to Kewpie Martin, but the name Gil Evans rings a bell or two.
