Funilly enough she pulled up driving a car next to me in London one day, not far from Buck House. Incredibly made up, just on her way to see Charlie Boy not long before the wedding. When I recognised here she went red as a beetroot and sped off through red lights at high speed...

Looks like SHE should have been in the driver's seat of the damn Mercedes instead of that Henri Paul on the night of her fatal crash!

The thing that attracted my attention that day was the condition of the car - absolutely immaculate and polished, you just don't see that in London. I was in the passenger seat and she (in the driver's seat) must have been less than 3 feet or so away fro me, based on the spacing of the cars. Absolutely amazing makeup job she had - quite beautiful too. I was gobsmacked !

In the back of the car was a detective and lady-in-waiting, with what looked to be a hat case. There was a bit of a delay at the lights but when she was recognised it was straight through those lights. The car was a Ford Escort Ghia, I believe.

Orange Ford Escort. The 'Mk 4' UK variant. Pretty sure it was the Ghia as it had the chrome trim on the sides. Polished to perfection !

Thinking about it again though, that detective was in the front and it was the lady plus the hat box in the back. Long time ago now, must have been about 1981.

A tight squeeze, for sure, in the back of that car nevertheless..

The Diana-Charles wedding was in July 1981. I was assigned to London to edit the damn royal photos...

And was also in Paris on the day of that fatal crash August 31, 1997. A busy night of work. I remember the stunned silence in the middle of that Saturday night when I told a colleague in London that I had a tip that Diana had died in the crash. That was a couple of hours before it became official. First indications after the crash was that she had only suffered injuries.
