Randy Twizzle Posted January 19, 2005 Report Posted January 19, 2005 "This will be a rare performance," says clarinetist and sax man Glickman. "Just preparing for it has been challenging." He'll also bring his frequently present banjo. Thursday's program will progress from early 20th century jazz (and Glickman's own song about its performers) and progress to "real music from real guys" of late '20s — Charley Parker, Felonius Monk, Dave Brubeck, to "big" jazz bands at the tailend of the swing era. http://www.ashlandwi.com/placed/index.php?...story_id=191734 Quote
Ron S Posted January 19, 2005 Report Posted January 19, 2005 What's the penalty if you're convicted of Felonius Monk? Quote
Jim R Posted January 19, 2005 Report Posted January 19, 2005 This is funny on so many levels, but what really cracked me up was how the writer kept alternating between calling the guy "Glickman" and "Glicknian". Pure sketch comedy. Just be glad that none of us has a frequently present banjo... we all know how painful that can be. I hope that Glickerson finds it in his heart not to murder the person who wrote that piece... come to think of it, maybe that's why nobody took credit for it. Quote

Okay, maybe Glickton's not brilliant, but he still looks like a genius compared to the joker who wrote the article. Quote

ejp626 Posted January 19, 2005 Report Posted January 19, 2005 I think you missed this line: ... like most reed musicians he is adept on the saxophone and his banjo Yes, that ever popular triple threat -- clarinet, saxophone and banjo. I think there's a bootleg out there where Eric Dolphy and Buddy Collette trade 4s while switching instruments, finally culminating in DUELING BANJOs. Quote
