Dmitry Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 http://www.iht.com/articles/2005/01/21/features/jazz.html I will attend, if not for the buying then at least to look at these rare items. Things like the ones mentioned in the article are offered for public sale once in a life-time. http://www.guernseys.com/Auctions/Jazz/About.html Quote
sidewinder Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 Some discussion of this one here: Auction Quote
brownie Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 Dmitry, lucky you! Hope you will give us a first-hand report from the auction scene. It should be quite something! Wish I was there! And wish I could afford some of the items Quote
Dmitry Posted January 22, 2005 Author Report Posted January 22, 2005 Thanks. I think I might even afford one of the 400 lots. Trane's sheet music won't go for thousands, I think. Bird's horn will probably be in high 5 figures, maybe even 6 figures. Quote
sidewinder Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 (edited) The Monk smoking jacket and high school books sound pretty cool Edited January 22, 2005 by sidewinder Quote
Dmitry Posted January 22, 2005 Author Report Posted January 22, 2005 Check out Monk's jacket. Awesome!!! brownie, I think you should order the catalogue [i'll pick one up for you, if you want]. It in itself will become a collectable. You never know, usually after the featured lots, like Trane's and Bird's horns, which will probably be offered in the middle of the sale, the enthusiasm of the public will diminish, as it often happens in auctions, and some things will fetch a low price [j'espere]. brownie Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 Dmitry, I'ld rather have you pick me up Monk's jacket. Just what I need In case you are overbid, I'll settle for the catalogue! Merci beaucoup. Will PM you later... Quote
Christiern Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 I want to reed the handwritten letters from Louis Armstrong to Goodman's clarinet. It isn't often that an instrument received mail. Leave it to Louis! Quote
