The few discs I own in the ECM New Series of classical recordings I really enjoy.

Any particular recommendations from this series that anyone would like to point out?

I'm especially fond of Thomas Zehetmair's playing.

Late, I assume you have the Schumann String Quartets 1, 3, by Zehetmair Quartet?

Yes, a nice one indeed. Didn't it win Grammophone's 2003 "Recording of the Year" award? Or something like that?

I've been wanting to check out the Rosamunde Quartet's recording of Haydn's "The Seven Last Words" as well as the Ravel concerto work on ECM. Also, I think there's an Elliot Carter concerto for oboe somewhere on ECM.

The Hilliard Ensemble I can't my ears around ... yet. I think, in time, I'll adjust to them. (My ears always gravitate toward chamber groups, particularly strings.)

While I'm not the biggest fan of "jazz" on ECM, I have to say I like their classical recordings quite a bit. The cover art, in my opinion, is also beautiful.

Keep the recs coming!

Whoo boy, I just put in this order to All Direct:

• Zehetmair-Holliger: Violinkonzert

• Fellner-Bach: The Well-Tempered Clavier

• Holliger-Zehetmair-Carter-Yun: Lauds & Lamentations

• Kavakos-Nagy-Ravel-Enescu: Sonatas

• Rosamunde-Haydn: The Seven Last Words of Christ

• Silvestrov: Leggiero Pesante

• Schnittke-Shostakovich: Piano Quintets

Also just picked this one up for $4.24 (!):

• Rosamunde Quartet: Webern-Shostakovich-Burian: String Quartets

The Burian sides are especially nice. New to my ears — sort of Romance-inflected Bartok. Very much to my liking.

• Schnittke-Shostakovich: Piano Quintet & String Quartet

Phew! Alfred Schnittke is one bad motherf-er. His Klavierquintett: Lento with the Keller Quartet and Alexei Lubimov on piano ... definitely for lovers of the Microtonal School. Thrilling stuff. A lusty :tup for this one on ECM New Series.

Guy Ritchie also used Pärt's "Alina" for his terrible movie with Madonna. (And he used Della Reese's cover of "C'mon-a My House." Nice touch, there.)

When I bought my copy of Alina, there was actually a sticker on the shrinkwrap — hard to believe ECM would do this — that read "Michael Stipe from R.E.M. Recommends!"

Recently, I'm a little burned out on Pärt, but I do appreciate/enjoy his music.

Less blase them me, I just picked up Tabula Rasa. WOW, I love it!

Would Alinea be a good one to follow up with?
