connoisseur series500 Posted March 4, 2005 Author Report Posted March 4, 2005 Latest news: WR David Patten has just signed with the Redskins. Patten was New England's third receiver and possibly their best deep threat. That's Patten, Andruzzi, Troy Brown, Ty Law, Roman Pfifer--some decent names there--and nobody added on as replacement yet. Patriots are always slow to add people. Sources claim the team is close to signing an Arizon cornerback. I don't recall the name offhand, but he was the 10th pick in the 1998 draft and has been plagued by injuries the last couple of years. They better start replacing some of these good players that have departed. I expect more departures too; especially if some players won't restructure their contracts. Linebacker Rosey Colvin will have to restructure if he is to stay on the team. I also wouldn't bet much that cornerback Tyrone Poole will remain with the team. I'm sure he'll be released as well. Aggie87 Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 Ok, how's your team doing so far in the draft? (and in the offseason in general) Dallas has selected two defensive players - Demarcus Ware, and Marcus Spears. I see a big improvement in the front 7, regardless of whether they play the 3-4 or stick with the 4-3. Might have a hard time getting everyone on the field up there. So with the offseason pickups of Drew Bledsoe, Jason Ferguson, & Anthony Henry, I see their remaining needs as free safety, and secondly a wide receiver, and then another offensive lineman. If they can pick up a good free safety in the second round, then they've had an excellent draft, IMO. I'm not sure I get Washington's draft so far, and I thought it was a little odd that Detroit went for yet another WR. Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted April 24, 2005 Author Report Posted April 24, 2005 (edited) I'm happy with New England's draft so far. They picked up two outstanding offensive line prospects in Nick Kaszur (Toledo) and Logan Mankins out of Fresno. The team basically took a pass on the first day of the draft aside from these two picks. They have tons of picks tomorrow. Great draft for San Francisco and Dallas, I think. Jets did well despite not having a first round pick. Interesting pick for Detroit in the first round. Pittsburgh did well with their first two picks. I find the lower rounds and later picks to be more interesting. The top picks are all forecasted and predictable. Edited April 24, 2005 by connoisseur series500 Quote
Shawn Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 I ended up having the draft on most of the day, while I was cleaning the apartment...working on spreadsheets for work...etc. It's the first draft I've ever paid any attention to. My "underdog" Seahawks have made some interesting free agent additions recently, especially grabbing Jamie Sharper from the Texans, Joe Jurevicus (sp?) from Tampa Bay & Jerome Pathon from the Saints. It appears they aren't taking any chances at Wide Reciever this year... Quote
Soulstation1 Posted May 17, 2005 Report Posted May 17, 2005 anyone want to ride shotgun on my boy kellen winslow's bike? another waste of a pick... ss1 Quote
chris olivarez Posted May 17, 2005 Report Posted May 17, 2005 It will be interesting to see how Maurice Clarett shakes out for the Broncos. Quote
PHILLYQ Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 It will be interesting to see how Maurice Clarett shakes out for the Broncos. Denver has a few other running backs besides Clarett, so it's relatively low risk for them. Denver also has a record of developing good running backs, so this might be the best situation for Clarett. PHILLYQ Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 anyone want to ride shotgun on my boy kellen winslow's bike? another waste of a pick... ss1 Unless it has to do with a huge cap hit, I don't really get why Cleveland just doesn't cut Winslow- he missed a good chunk of last year, this year he's out for the year, will he be the same player he might have been next year? meanwhile Cleveland has spent a lot of $$ for a few games. connoisseur series500 Posted May 18, 2005 Author Report Posted May 18, 2005 anyone want to ride shotgun on my boy kellen winslow's bike? another waste of a pick... ss1 ss1 getting paranoid about his Browns so early. Should tell your team to go pick up some of those good free agent linebackers still available. Savage is a great drafter; does he work the free agent market as well? or is it that the Browns are cap heavy after cutting all their dead wood loose over the offseason? Quote
Soulstation1 Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 (edited) trent dilfer is the browns new qb whoopteee freakin' dooo watch courtney brown go to the pro-bowl with the broncos, he couldn't make it through one game with the browns. browns have a tough early schedule we'll be lucky with 5 wins this season i like mike williams going to the lions, he might be the best player in the draft what about onterrio smith getting busted with the whizzanator and dried urine? i don't believe getting busted with that shit is against the law. ss1 Edited May 18, 2005 by Soulstation1 Quote

connoisseur series500 Posted May 20, 2005 Author Report Posted May 20, 2005 Saban confirms that Ricky Williams spoke to him about returning to the NFL. I believe he will this year. He'll have to serve his four game suspension first, but he'll be back, I think. Quote

Aggie87 Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 Taking a Stand by Jay Mohr Posted July 26, 2005 "I'm a holdout" = "I'm a jerk" Two years ago, shortly before the playoffs began, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers did something that caught us all off guard. They deactivated, and later traded, wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson. Apparently the Glazer brothers had had enough of what New Yorkers were well aware of four years earlier: Keyshawn wants the damn ball. After averaging 76 catches a year with the Jets, the former first-round stud complained his way out of the biggest market in football and into the lap of the Bucs. "Meyshawn" averaged two fewer catches a season in the same amount of time with his new club. Now with the Dallas Cowboys, Keyshawn has quick slanted his way from probable Hall of Famer to reliable possession receiver. The release of Keyshawn seamed to get the ball rolling for the shifting of power from athletes to GMs and owners in the constant battle for leverage. With a single pink slip, the Buccaneers may have fortunately ushered in the era of "Don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya" when it comes to spoiled athletes. If we fast forward to this current off season, Keyshawn by comparison to his fellow wideouts looks almost altruistic. Everyone this side of China is well aware that Terrell Owens is the greatest wide receiver today. But apparently when it comes to renegotiating his contract, Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffery Lurie has two words for T.O.: Big Deal. Owens did not attend voluntary workouts earlier this year after Lurie told anyone who would listen that Terrell was most certainly not going to receive one red cent more than his current contract dictated. Mr. Lurie, I think I speak on behalf of every football fan not living in Philadelphia when I say "Thank you." I apologize to Mr. Owens. I realize how hard it must be to live on $49 million. Ol' Terrell must have been having an off day when he thought $49 million for seven years was a fair and profitable deal. Unfortunately, there are no mulligans when it comes to pro football contracts. If there were, Green Bay receiver Javon Walker would be re-teeing his ball as we speak. The Packers are telling Walker not to check his mailbox for more money anytime soon. The 27-year-old Walker is currently earning $500,000 to play 16 football games. Alas, Javon needs more dough, so he also, is a no-show. There is little doubt that both receivers will eventually return to their teams and contribute. But is so much needless public posturing worth the respect and goodwill they lose with football fans everywhere? I say no. After watching Owens at the Super Bowl last year I became a huge fan. Now, after his holdout, I just think he's a jerk. I never had much of an opinion of Walker at all, but now, he, too, is a jerk. I have an idea I would like to extend to Terrell, Javon and the rest of the holdouts this off season. How about investing some faith in yourself. If these guys really think they are underpaid, why shouldn't they simply rely on their hard work and abilities to ensure that teams have no choice but to pay them more money? My hat is off to all owners who are not caving into spoiled athletes who, let's face it, will never be satisfied. Hopefully the message sent to other ingrates will be heard loud and clear: "Get your ass to work!" Quote
