It's good, I agree, and those who grow up with the internet as the main (or only) choice for jazz will be very happy with it, but I'm going to miss combing through the jazz section at a local store when that option disappears. And it will disappear.

Well in many ways I miss that as well, I recall as a young man going to the record shop with my Dad, he was looking for Bix, Dizzy and Louis stuff and there seemed so much choice.

Now I have to travel about 20 miles or so for the nearest outlet, and that is not a great one. Lots of Miles reissues ( nothing wrong with that per say) and a few Coltrane etc. But as for choice, well the only choice for me is the Internet.

The problem with buying sides on the internet is that there's no real-time "moment of accountbility" like there is in a store, when you gotta write the check, or dig into the wallet, or fork over the plastic. Point, click, point, click, point, click, ad infinitum. Not until the bill comes do you realize what you've really done...

I will miss the record store search..........the early days for me going to college campus shops with that scent of incense, walls covered in posters .......later on hunting and haunting the record/cd stores in each town I'd travel to on business.........finding something new to hear for the very first time. That was my escape, my relaxation.

This board is a great excape........there's much to learn from everyone here.....but I find it difficult to relax sitting close to a bright monitor for a few hours visiting various websites.

There are still a few stores here that stock a decent selection of jazz titles. One even has a separate room for jazz and is well decorated enough to give an exclusive feel. Only grouse is some releases take months/years to arrive (worst case was nine years for the Miles Plugged Nickle box <_< , but they redeemed themselves by pricing the set low :D ).

That said, my online purchases outweigh physical store ones by a ratio of 10:1. There's just so much more available out there. And I certainly don't miss browsing the store racks cause I can browse the online ones. :rhappy:
