catesta Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 Any idea if the cd is available anywhere? Quote
l p Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 a session of shepp doing ellington tunes. that's some radical jazz listening. at least you have the right shepp decade. but i'm sure that's just a coincidence. Quote
catesta Posted March 3, 2005 Author Report Posted March 3, 2005 Hey what do you know, l p popping in to share some of his wonderful opinions. Yeah, God forbid someone wants to hear Shepp doing a fucking Ellington tune. Quote
MartyJazz Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 I've had the LP for years and always liked it. Don't think I've ever seen it on CD or I probably would have copped it, sick OCD fuck that I am. Shepp's playing in the mid'70s to early '80s was to my ears, very accessible and quite swinging when the particular tune called for it. I saw him live several times during those years, at the Vanguard, Sweet Basil, as well as the loft jazz scene in the east Village, and he was always great. Quote
jazzbo Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 Half.com shows this as being a 1989 Denon cd, looks good (they don't have it in stock). I've never heard it. Song List 1. Don't You Know I Care 2. Caravan 3. Day Dream 4. Satin Doll 5. I Got It Bad And That Ain't Good 6. Prelude To A Kiss Album Notes Personnel: Archie Shepp (tenor & soprano saxophones), Walter Davis (piano), Earl May (bass), Philly Joe Jones (drums). Quote
couw Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 amazon.de lists it twice as 2000 and 2002 releases. Available yes, but expensive too. Quote
