Anyone in the know have any ideas on who will perform at the 2005 Paris Jazz Festival? Their website still has artists TBD. These are afternoon outdoor concerts at the Parc Floral de Paris. Since my son Matthew (five today - time sure flies) told me this week-end that he wanted to see Wayne Shorter (who usually plays this festival in July), and since we are probably going to France this summer, I thought I'd combine the two!

Thanks in advance,

Bertrand.

Bertrand, I have seen no details yet. There is the Parc Floral festival and also usually a festival in the Marais district. Will alert you when I see something!

Thanks!

In 2003, we missed Shorter by a few weeks (he was there in July, we were there in June). His tour directory at www.imnworld.com shows nothing yet.

Brownie,

By the way, I sent you an e-mail on Monday, but I used the e-mail address that you had last year. It occurred to me now that this address may no longer be valid now that you have retired. Did you receive my message, or should I send a PM?

Thanks,

Bertrand.

Stupid question and too lazy to look it up: when is the festival actually? I might have time and am not too far away. I should at least be able to work in a weekend.

Dizzy, the Paris Jazz festival usually runs every weekends from mid June to late July. That's happening at the Parc Floral in Vincennes, just outside (East) Paris.

Then there is another festival going on in the heart of Paris in July.

No idea yet on who is lined up for these!

Sounds great, Guy.

I'm actually on extended holidays around that time.

I'm also not all that interested in big names (I've seen enough of those) but rather in local talents, insider tipps, jam sessions in smaller venues, street jams, whatever. Will that be happenin' as well (or is this festival one of those organized mega-events with big-headed artists)? If yes, I'm gonna put it on my itinerary.

In that case, you might try your luck next June 21 when the whole city celebrates music on the annual Fete de la Musique where wouldbe, amateur and professional musicians invade the streets of Paris. There is music at every street corner and squares that day (mostly in the evening).

Yes, but how about the jazz festival? Will they have performances at lots of smaller venues, or is it one of those bigwig thingies with a few concerts spread out throughout the weeks of the festival?

The Paris Jazz Festival is held at the Parc Floral de Vincennes. Some details:

The other festival that is held in the heart of Paris usually takes place outside or inside the beautiful palaces of the Marais district. Usually pretty convivial.

Bertrand, voila le lineup for the 2005 Paris Jazz Festival at the Parc Floral de Vincennes:

For La Fete de la Musique on June 21, the exciting quartet of pianist Baptiste Trotignon - with tenorsax player David El Malek - will be at the beautiful Hotel de Sully in the Marais! Should be really good! Rosaro Giuliani and his trio will be playing there also.

Details will be posted later at this site:
