Brad Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 I stopped by Scotti's Record Shop yesterday in Morristown, NJ to pick up some cd cases and there was a sign there that I found pretty amazing: "Load Your iPod Buy It! Burn It! Return It! Get 70% back in store credit on any CD. Good on New and Used Cds." While I'm sure many people may be burning cds illegally, I've never heard of a retailer actually promoting a burning practice. I can't think the record companies would be very happy about this. Quote
Dan Gould Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 Very surprising. But I'm sure though that they don't get any co-op advertising dollars from any label, so there isn't much to be done about them. Quote
jazzbo Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 Gee, they can sell popular cds about 10 times, and get 30% each time. . . doing the math they come out ahead. I sense record company lawyers hovering and ready to pounce however! Quote
MartyJazz Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 To actually exhort the buyer to "burn it" and then "return it" is to invite possible legal action, I would think. Whereas, if he were to state that CDs returned within a day or two of purchase would result in a 70% credit to the buyer.....well, buyers could figure it out for themselves as to what that is about. But maybe I'm naive in that it's possible this dealer is asking for trouble regardless of how he goes about it. Quote
