tranemonk Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 I'm just curious what services you guys use???? I started out using cheap-cds.com then moved to CDUniverse and still find that their 30% off advance new releases is a good policy... Although I do disagree with their policy to charge you for shipping each time... (It's a pain in the a**....) I'm now starting to use overstock.com. Not great on selection but good on price and little or no shipping costs.... I only use Amazon as a last resort for CD's.... What do you use? And why???? Quote
Big Wheel Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 (edited) I've started with alldirect--but only do big orders, as you get free shipping when you order over $100. Only check Overstock once in a very great while but there doesn't seem to be much of interest for cheap there anymore. Will also buy from Dusty Groove when they have things on clearance. Ron S Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 AllDirect.com. Teriffic prices, free shipping for orders of $99 and over, great customer service on occasional defective discs, and generally great selection (as long as it's in stock and you know which label and issue date you want). And if they don't have it in stock, you can't order it. Quote

My last order was about half OJCs and I had to really hunt to find ones that I liked and were in stock. I dunno if this is the result of there being massive deletions in the OJC catalog, or just a slowness on Fantasy's part to send them more copies of the less popular titles. Quote

But at least you know at the time of ordering that those listed in stock are in fact there and, to their credit, they refuse to accept backorders. I've found that many in-print CD's they list as out-of-stock eventually come back in stock, usually within weeks if not sooner. Quote
undergroundagent Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 I still use cheap-cds.com, but I find that they are out of stock on many titles. Prices, however, are "cheap" as implied. Quote
B. Goren. Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 djangos. Free shipping when you order over $25, good prices, used CDs in a good shape, wishlist, "Notify Me" system which allows you to request an e-mail alert when ‘out-of-stock’ titles become available, what else can we ask for??? Quote
B. Goren. Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 Another recommended store is My Music, but sometimes they are more expensive than djangos. Quote

My last order was about half OJCs and I had to really hunt to find ones that I liked and were in stock. You have me to blame. I did a run on OJC titles in the summer, and then again when the great OJC thread that Chuck started got going. I noticed some titles that were out of stock in the summer were back in stock in the fall, while others remained out of stock. And after I ordered many more OJCs were out of stock. Never got around to placing another order as DustyGroove then had the Jazz In Paris sale. As Ron mentions at least alldirect does warn you that items are out of stock beforehand, and on my big fall order only 1 disc was out of stock after I placed the order. I do like how they don't trap you into the eternal backorder. I use a combination of many of the sources mentioned. Alldirect for orders over $99. CD Universe for new releases that I want now (rather than waiting for them to show up at alldirect.) And Django's for the Notify Me list for used discs. I've been having trouble with them lately sending the wrong issues and discs not arriving, but they respond to my complaints and try to fix things. And then there's the yourmusic.com thing now too, and I ordered from Disciplinemobile for some Crimson related releases. Suddenly I feel responsible for our local jazz & blues cd shop closing earlier this month after 20+ years of business. Quote

Peggy-Ann Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 alldirect a couple of times a year ($100+). Have ordered from alphacrazeshopping via yahoo shopping. They have good prices on certain items. Recently bought 2 JSP boxes and 2 proper boxes for $70 and the shipping was less than $5. Quote

Why yea-sss, I did... Once upon a time I made a point of heavily supporting the local independent shops. And I really do like having them around. Eventually I got tired of paying 25 to 40% more for the limited supply of goods in stock (at least with new discs.) It took until after 2000 for it to be the Me Decade when it comes to buying CDs. LAL Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 All of the above, except those that don't ship outside the U.S. and, Amazon.com since their prices are way too high. Quote
PHILLYQ Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 I don't shop there online because I can actually visit, but check out J&R- they have a lot of good deals. Quote
