Adam Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 Just saw this on Salon: The venerable Smithsonian Folkways label has opened a digital music store, Smithsonian Global Sound -- the most exciting online music happening in quite some time. The site is beautifully designed, and the Web interface is elegant and easy to navigate. The music's the thing, though, with the entirety of Folkways' vast and astonishing collection of folk music from around the world available for download at 99 cents a track. I'll be digging through the store in the coming weeks, and would welcome pointers to anything especially delightful. http://www.smithsonianglobalsound.org/ Quote
John B Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 and the Web interface is elegant and easy to navigate. http://www.smithsonianglobalsound.org/ I'm using Mozilla Firefox and haven't been able to pull up a single album yet. Nigeria - no matches Pakistan - no matches etc, etc..... Quote
mikeweil Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 I used the dropdown menus to browse through geopgraphic regions, and had no problems. The single tracks lead to complete albums, if you want to (Buy whole album feature). $ 0.99 a track .... considering many are very short and an album can have up to 20 tracks ... I'd prefer a CD on demand option. I use the latest version of Opera to browse, BTW. Quote
mikeweil Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 I now used the quick country search function - again, everything works fine. You get whole albums through this feature right away. Should I cast in another vote for the Opera browser? Quote
Tom Storer Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 This is great! When you purchase a track, you get to choose between FLAC and MP3. FLAC means bigger files but no loss of audio quality. Excellent work they've done! Quote
