Guest akanalog Posted April 13, 2005 Report Posted April 13, 2005 for anyone who wants a little funk but isn't a big organ fan-this larry willis album features a lot of electric piano oriented funk. not too funky. funky enough but still some good jazz music. i don't know how to link images or i would show the cover. larry looks pissed. bandmates include eddie gomez and harold vick and al foster. i think this was on groove merchant originally-and i think that label is usually a letdown. but this is a good one. http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&t...10:agw67ue070jd see what hyperbolic toolbag thom jurek says about the album here. jurek actually does make some sense when he namechecks "in a silent way". while not very similar at all, the final track on this album does sort of have that kind of vibe going in a less subtle way. the one jazz-y song on the album actually sound a lot like "dear eric" i think it was called-on the jackie mclean "right now" album. only complaint with inner crises is the one annoying "island" rhythm type of song. save those for sonny rollins.... Guest akanalog Posted April 13, 2005 Report Posted April 13, 2005 right you are about the song title. i was doing that off my head. sorry. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted April 14, 2005 Report Posted April 14, 2005 Borrowed this on CD from a friend several months ago, and really liked it. Not enough to pay $25 for it (only available as a Japanese import), but if it was available domestically for about $13, I'd already have it by now. (And no, I didn't burn his copy.) Quote
mikeweil Posted April 14, 2005 Report Posted April 14, 2005 I've loved this from the year it was out - a local befriended pianist hipped me to it. He even played the title tune with his band. Willis lays down some serious funky Wurlitzer piano on this! (Even tops his friend Herbie, I must admit.) Quote
mikeweil Posted April 14, 2005 Report Posted April 14, 2005 This was discussed here, BTW, when the CD was released. Quote
