tranemonk Posted April 13, 2005 Report Posted April 13, 2005 (edited) what ethics problem??? Edited April 13, 2005 by tranemonk Quote
Brad Posted April 13, 2005 Report Posted April 13, 2005 How is this is not a legal issue? The fact that it's long OOP is irrelevant. The owner of the material, probably Nat's estate, and Mosaic might have some objections here if they knew. Quote
Claude Posted April 13, 2005 Report Posted April 13, 2005 (edited) Assuming this is not an ethical (legal) issue since it is long OOP and ain't comnig back.. The material is from 1943-1949, which means it is in the public domain in Europe (50 years protection) but not in the US (70 years). Edited April 13, 2005 by Claude Quote
andybleaden Posted April 14, 2005 Report Posted April 14, 2005 Are we missing a thread or post here.....who rasied this in the first place. I have seen the Nat King Coles being made available on mp3 and they are in mono obvioulsy and ripped at about 90kps As for the ethics. If the law of law land where it is says it aint then it aint. There will always be issues with this across here in the EU as our copyright laws are different but they are our rules. As for these, they are still illegally being made available in certain quarters and therefore like make a cd burn are just the same. Whether you do that is the question. Downloadable mp3 or cd roms or cd burns are theft but this will not be the first example or the last ( I hope ) Andy (anyway has this thread been edited then?) Quote
andybleaden Posted April 14, 2005 Report Posted April 14, 2005 (edited) and I speak as one who has all three of the above ! Ie cdrom, cd burns and mp3 but a hell of a large retail cd collection so post away! Edited April 14, 2005 by andybleaden Quote

Looks like tranemonk edited his first post to delete the reference to where these can be downloaded (perhaps at the behest of Board Management?). Quote
andybleaden Posted April 14, 2005 Report Posted April 14, 2005 Good job too! Was surprised to see it actually as I have not seen it at all on mp3 but I guess it was a matter of time. I guess deleting the name would be appropriate then after all. Might even get Buddy Boldens stuff on mp3 next!!! Quote
Tjazz Posted April 14, 2005 Report Posted April 14, 2005 With ipods and computers abound, many collectors and music fanatics have mentioned this before. Quote
Adam Posted April 14, 2005 Report Posted April 14, 2005 I just was shown a site yesterday that has a variety of MP3 loaded CD-Roms and DVD-Roms, along with regular CDs for sale. One I noticed was The Pogues Anthology, containing every Pogues album and Shane MacGowan album, all on one CD-Rom for 12.99. My guess, not legal. I'm blanking on the name. www.txxxxcd.com, but I can't remember went into those "x"s. These are the sort of things I buy on the street in mexico for $2 to get an introduction to a band, and then I look for the real things. But openly selling it on a website? Quote
andybleaden Posted April 14, 2005 Report Posted April 14, 2005 Yeh you used to be able to buy them in the former Soviet states ( still can actually) as they never sold any jazz cds much ( no one used to trade there) Used to be very cheap too.......used to get about 7-9 lps with front artwork and that used to stay on the pc only These countries have very different laws regarding copyright and are gradually chaging as they come into the EU or the legal beagles get to them but it is I suspect too late.
